I hope that our class will take sometime to read the sad news in regard to two of our classmates, T. Booker Andrews and Peter A. Lankenner Jr., in the obituary column of this issue. Losing these two young people with such exceptional talent is difficult news for our class and those who were special friends. We mourn the loss of these young men.

Today was one of those crisp, sunswept fall days that makes us nostalgic for Hanover autumn. I had to travel to a rural Georgia county to one of those old southern courthouses where the ceiling fans hum, the windows open, and the town's elderly meet to talk on the

benches outside. It was one of those days when the case comes out just right and you like your job.

I also had a collect call (prisoners can only call collect) from one of my clients at the Atlanta Penitentiary Camp who gave me a great idea. For one month only, I will make an offer to accept collect calls from anyone with interesting information about himself/herself or anyone in our class. "Offer good from December 15, 1986, to January 15, 1987." Be glad you are not behind bars and give me a call, 404/233-4171.

Congratulations to Jody Hill Simpson and her husband, Rick, on the arrival of Jonathan Hill Simpson on May 13. Also, belated congratulations to Kim Coffman and his wife, Ann, on the birth of their son, Thaddeus Cormier Coffman, who was born on August 20, 1985.

Thomas W. Ames Jr. was recently married to Marguerite J. McLaughry. The ceremony took place in Norwich, Vt. at the home of Marguerite's parents. Marguerite is a graduate of the University of Vermont, has a master's degree from the University of Delaware, and is presently employed at Dartmouth College. Tom is presently employed by Hathorn/Olson Photographers in Hanover, N.H. Tom and Marguerite will live in Thetford Center, Vt.

Richard E. Thatcher has been appointed sales/marketing vice president of CIGNA RE, a re-insurance company of CIGNA Corporation. Richard is a resident of South Windsor, Conn., and has an M.B.A. degree from the Harvard Business School. He joined Aetna Insurance Company, a CIGNA company, in 1976 as a management research consultant. Since then he has held a variety of management, planning, and financial reporting positions within the corporation. He most recently served as vice president of strategic marketing for CIGNA's individual financial group, where he identified opportunities for the development of new products and services. CIGNA RE markets life and health insurance products and services.

Joe Hatcher has been pointed assistant professor of psychology on the faculty of Ripon College in Ripon, Wis.

Jay Craver lives with his wife, Jeri, on Lake Washington, in Seattle, Wash. He is in private practice as a psychotherapist and teaches counseling courses at various local universities.

Jim Hokans is presently the executive director of the Burlington Youth Development Program. Jim returned from London in 1982 after receiving a master's degree in public administration at the London School of Economics. He is also a loyal ally of Mayor Bernard Sanders of Burlington. He is married to Nancy Wilson, a Stanford graduate, who is a business analyst for Industrial Cooperative Association, which provides technical assistance and financing for worker-owned and operated businesses.

Joe Bartlett has returned to the United States from Indonesia and Singapore. He is presently participating in the Clairmont Graduate Schools' Executive Management Program. After he completes his M.A. program, Joe expects to return to the Southeast Asia region.

I have also heard from my counterpart, Mary Ellen Donovan, class of 1976. It was great fun to be one of two Mary Donovans at Dartmouth, and I had the best of two worlds. I received her love notes, and she received my bills. Mary Ellen is presently living in Manhattan, has published a book entitled Women and Self Esteem, and is in the midst of writing her second book, Love Blocks.

Finally this column comes to you as the result of the generosity of an Auburn (War Eagle) anonymous alumni contributor who paid my phone bill. Mary.
