Now, let's hear it from the B's! First response was from Glenn Behringer, who enclosed a very attractive family picture taken at his retirement party from Mass. General Hospital. Glenn and Joan plan to move to Florida in January to Harbour Ridge (developed by John Dodge '54) which is already home to 32 Dartmouth grads.
The Behringers' daughter Betsey is in the Department of Anesthesia at M.G.H. Son Bob is at Bell Research Lab, and he is about to start his Ph.D. at Columbia, while Wendy and Eric are expecting in June.
Glenn reports that Fred Stockwell and Jim Wells also live in Harbour Ridge. I hope there aren't any one-way streets in that town.
Next was Bill Burr who is starting an exciting second career with Humana Heart Institute International. He is associated with the rehab program for open-heart patients and their families. Bill climbed the corporate ladder at G.E. as regional manager for several divisions, and later was v.p. with Paramount Foods. Bill and wife Geraldine have been married 46 years. They have two daughters and four grandchildren. His hobbies and volunteer work include Mended Hearts, classical music station WTTK, the Salvation Army, tennis, dancing, and rose gardening. He was in the Army Signal Corps. Now they take trips to Hanover in the fall and Florida in February.
A letter that developed out of Eddie O's severe blast was from Stan Bolster in Lake Worth, Fla. Stan retired from the Harvard faculty in 1982 after 25 years. He spent his summers in Maine. He and Elizabeth have visited about every spot in the world. Harbour Ridge sponsors a Big D Golf, where he has joined Jim Wells, Fred Stockwell, and Stan Calder as a not-very-fearsome '43 foursome.
John Bartemus also responded to Eddie O's request, and reports that he retired from the insurance business, has been married to Mary Jane for 40-plus years, and they have six children and five grandchildren. They split their summers between Syracuse, N.Y., and Lake Sunapee, N.H. They winter in Bradenton, Fla.
Jim Adams, who claimed to be our youngest class member, has stirred up much controversy. Entries to date: Jim, born April 26, 1922; FrankPerley, born July 9, 1922; John Bartemus, born August 5, 1922; and Jim Gilfillan, born February 10, 1923!!
Frank Perley, while entering the youngest classmate contest, asked for help from our Latin Scholars on all the gibberish on his diploma. Can anyone translate it for us?
I'm not going to bother finding out who is the oldest member in the class. The E's for the next column include LewEnglish, Paul Enz, Jim Evans, and RichardEymann. Let's keep the ball rolling.
Johnny Koslowski sent in an interesting report on the 50th anniversary of the fifth down game. Ten members of the Cornell team were present as were Capt. Lou Young, Bob Clark, Bud Kast, and John Koslowski. John remarked about Cornell's sportsmanship in light of a very similar game this year in which Colorado kept the unearned victory.
Eddie O took me to task (as well he should have), for not mentioning the wonderful show put on by Doc and Sue Fielding at our recent mini-reunion. Eddie O provided the connecting script between the various characters that Doc played in his "Saturday Night Live."
To make it up to Doc, he has been bugging me to have a '43 mini-mini-reunion on Cape Cod, so here it is. On Thursday, May 30 at noon we'll have a '43 lunch at High Brewster, Brewster, Mass. We should have at least a dozen, plus assorted wives and girlfriends, and I must have the numbers by May 15. This restaurant doesn't have a liquor license, so I will have "bloodies" and white wine available. State your preference.
