My strong hope is that the war in the Gulf will be over by the time this goes to print. I have only received news of one of our classmates who is in Saudi Arabia, but I imagine there are others. Major Edward S. Hemphill has been assigned to serve as an orthopedic surgeon for Operation Desert Storm, according to his wife, Melissa. She says that he'd love to hear from classmates, and his address is: 86th Evac. Hospital, c/o 101 st Airbourne Div., APO N. Y. 09309. I hope he is home by now.
We received news that Bob Hurst is now Lt. Commander Robert Hurst, but no word of whether he is still in Virginia or has joined Major Hemphill in the Gulf. Please send news, if any of you know more.
Once again, I am relying on the last of the messages sent to our treasurer, CareyHeckman, with dues. Keep them coming in, and be sure to write about yourself and others. Thanks, Carey, for making this column possible.
Donald Lawes has been married to Darcy Prendeville Lawes '79 for almost eight years. They have "two beautiful (and energetic)" children: Derek 3 and Kim 1. He reports, "With the Gulf Crisis, the fuel oil business is really 'heating up'." The Lawes family is living in Little Silver, N.J.
Peter Friedensohn M.D. is living nearby in Milton, Mass. He reports that he has "three girls (two more to have a B-Ball team) and one wife. All is well."
The College provided me with a couple of very interesting news tidbits: KennethMonteiro is an associate professor of psychology at San Francisco State, where he has begun an 18-month project looking at stress and coping responses in Black persons with MDS and their caregivers (some of whom have AIDS). He hopes to develop an intervention program that can provide better ways of dealing with the stress of AIDS. Kenneth has been a member of the San Francisco State faculty since 1987.
And just when you thought you knew everything there was to know about ReggieWilliams . .. there's more! Reggie has a new job. He retired from the Cincinnati Bengals after the 1989 season, to work full time at his job as a city councilman, but he found it difficult to be away from football (according to the illustrious Valley News). His new position is "putting together a pro football franchise" by March 23, when the World League of American Football season opens. Reggie is now general manager of the New York Knights. By the time you read this, his team should already be playing games!
Although this year marks the fifteenth anniversary of our graduation, of course we have to wait another year to come to our reunion. At this time, please mark your calendar and keep the month of June 1992 free. And start saving those pennies. We'll be aiming to break
attendance and giving records! Until next month, enjoy the mud and please send news of your friends. I promise to keep the sources confidential if so requested! Become a SPY!!
