From St. Jean-de-Luz, where he retired some years back, Jack Weisert sent a long letter. Wife Ilona and he were to have taken off for several weeks in Paris, the Hague, and then across Germany and Austria into Budapest. An alternative to the last part of the trip, Jack wrote, would be some time at home on his excellent Chantaco golf course.
Jack's contacts in the last 15 or 20 years have included the Red Chamberlins, JohnGoodwillie, Bob Ryan while making a movie in Paris, Gale Freeman and BobOelman in Beirut, Gale again, and the Bill Stecks in Hamburg, the Frank Hardinges in Paris, and the Tom Beerses of '34. If you golfing, traveling gourmets have read the article on St. Jean-de-Luz in the issue of Le Figaro which Jack sent, you would soon be getting together with Ilona and Jack in that beautiful spot.
From Tuscany came a letter from HarryReed, who reported that the Reeds have now lived there some 12 years, never tire of it, and have the joy of being so near Florence. His wife has a small kennel of Italian greyhounds and is active in dog shows. Within a five-mile radius there are a dozen old, restored farmhouses similar to theirs, occupied by a cosmopolitan group, so they never lack for companionship and tennis. In the winter they usually go to Bali or Haiti, but last year they got caught during the fall of Baby Doc and hastily went to the Dominican Republic.
Al Schumacher reported from Mexico City on a fishing trip he took with his brother off Rockport, Tex., where the sea trout, red-fish, and king mackerel were hitting hard; and then continued with the third of these fine letters from overseas, his on a word processor, the first I've seen from a classmate. Al had beaten around the Caribbean rim with PanAm in Central America up to the war years, but he and his wife, Janie, have lived in Mexico City since 1947. Their daughter and the four Schumacher grandchildren also live in that city.
Al wrote that "THE" earthquake of last fall, outside of scaring the dickens out of Janie and him, luckily caused them no damage. Space does not permit me to add more of the contents of Al's letter, but I can assure you that classmates making a trip to Mexico will find Al, with his 40 years of residence, a source of information they can't find in the travel agencies.
Now, how about sending us some news about that up-and-coming Brazil, Harry Townsend?
In answer to my letter questioning his Pennsylvania address listed in the Alumni Office printout, I received a letter from Bob Wallace from Skytop, Pa., where, alongside the ninth fairway, Speedy and he rent Linton Cottage during the summer months. He assured me that they are still legal residents of Delray Beach, where they frequently see the Florida East Coast contingent. Meantime Sam Groves had written that Bob continues as one of Delray's stalwarts, so that handles that question.

Attending the impressive show put on by Navy and not a few sparkling plays by our boys for a huge crowd, including a large Dartmouth turnout, were: Boermeester, Denham, BlaineMiller, McCarthy, and spouses; Gruen,Maynard, and, maybe, Karasik.
Season's Greetings, all!
