Recession? What recession? Reed Webster says, "Thank you all very much. I will take that job offer from Morgan Stanley." Reed's going to be working with Morgan's high net-worth clients (read: not me), as soon as he takes care of business at Northwestern's Kellogg School. I forced this information out of Jim Bloomer, whom I caught prowling around Evanston with fledgling son Weston. Cute kid. Big lungs. Not introverted in the least.
Let's see. I've got a few snippets of news here. E.J. Kelley's wife Jane helps me keep tabs on the '83 denizens in Minneapolis. (E.J. himself, by the way, is not a particularly proactive source of information, apparently preferring himself to remain happily anonymous.) Jane says the following: Bob Teeter is now a real Dad. He has a daughter named Chloe. Phonetically, that's "Clo-eeee." I believe Bob also resides in Dallas, but trust me on that one. Steve Wimsatt is still out on the left coast in Los Angeles, working in computer application consulting and trying to conserve water. Frank Davis—now there's a name I've missed since leaving Boston—is about to get married. His wedding to Beth Higgins is either in June or September. Frankie, how's come you didn't tell me this yourself? Messr. Davis works at Shawmut Bank's loan department in Boston. And, as long as the wedding bells are tolling, you should all know that MacGardner and Katy are engaged. Katy, forgive me I'm on deadline here and I can't for the life of me recall your last name. But Andrea and I really enjoyed meeting you last fall. We think very highly of Mac, except that he flies to Phoenix too much.
Some major news about Juan CarlosNavarro. Juan Carlos was recently elected as the Regional Representative for Latin America to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which is the principal ecological institution of the world. Juan Carlos is the first Panamanian ever to become an lUCN rep. He was nominated by the Costa Rican government, which cited his "extraordinary professional trajectory in the environmental field" and presented him as "one of the proven leaders of the new generation of ecologists in Latin America." Goodness. My boss tells me "I wish you would work harder, Ken."
At any rate, Juan Carlos has been a busy pup over the years. He's been the executive director of the National Association for the Conversation of Nature (ANCON) since 1985 and received a Masters Degree in Public Policy from Harvard.
Kevin Jones, who we last tracked down as Canisius College's assistant men's basketball coach, has moved on to become top dog for Alfred University's hoops team. Kevin spent part of last summer in Burkina Faso helping that African nation build a national basketball team from scratch. I mean "from scratch" literally—when Kevin was getting started, most of the players didn't have sneakers or socks. "I had to change a couple of drills," he admits. At any rate, I should have done more research into Alfred University's hoops record, but let's assume Kevin led them to an undefeated season and leave it at that.
There ain't much else, folks. Bill Robbins is engaged, Chip Greene says Tuck "isn't too challenging," and Nick Robbins is sending everybody chain letters when he has free time at BBDO in Adanta. Oh, yes, this just in from New York City. Peter Cholnoky is engaged. I kid you not. Now it's time to face up to the tax man I have this horrible premonition that we owe big-time.
