Members of the distinguished Bartlett Tower Society have just received their first Tower Notes, "an occasional letter" to members of the Society. When established in March 1990 the Society had 547 charter members, those who had established trusts or annuities benefiting the College, or who had confirmed the existence of bequests to the College in their wills. Since then 132 new members have been added. Leading classes are 1934 with 38 members, 1935 with 34,1933 and 1937 (33 each), and 1936 (31).
So where is 1930? Down the line a bit, with 26. There are several '30s with good intentions or, better, who simply need to confirm to the College the existence of bequests, which may bring the class up to its accustomed level of leadership. The rest of you, just pick up a phone and call Doris McClory or BillOBrion, your bequest chairpersons.
And speaking of which, I have the privilege and distinct honor of informing you that Chuck and Dee Dee Faye have given the College their beautiful Pebble Beach home of 45 years, a munificent gift now valued at about $450,000. As I write this in March, their new landlord is evicting them April 1. They'll be compensated with an annuity which, upon their regretted demise sometime in the next century, will become scholarship funds. Speaking for the class, as well as the College, I offer thanks and congratulations to the Fayes.
In anticipation of a new College alumni directory, among several MIAs mentioned by Milt was Joe Guilfoy, whose last known address was Sun City, Ariz. That gave me ample reason to call Hub and Margaret Christman, long-time residents of that Phoenix suburb. They had no information about Joe, and he no longer appears in the Greater Phoenix phone book. As he had had severe health problems when last reported some years ago, it is possible that he has gone to his reward.
At least this contact brought better news about the Christmans. Both sound fine. Hub reports some Golden Age back problems, tolerably controlled by exercise, and Margaret has made a good recovery from her stroke several years ago. We exchanged pleasant reminiscences about our paesani, John andFlavia Marsh. Hub says they were back in Cleveland recendy for a grandchild's wedding, and that was "enough of Cleveland."
