YES, SIR, COLONEL! Oops, make that "Yes, Ma'am, Colonel!" Bill and Doris McNeil visited Ft. Meade to greet their daughter, a colonel in a medical regiment, safely returned from Saudi Arabia. Operation Desert Joy!

Bill, who lives in Forest, Va., some 10 miles west of Lynchberg, travels and plays golf in his spare time. Otherwise, he is busy serving on the board of directors of a few local banks. Poetic justice: He has a big investment in his five children and eight grandchildren. Interest-bearing bonds for sure.

SLICE OF LIFE. No offense intended, but among the myriad '38 masters of the art of three-putting, a few must surely deviate from course now and again. Parker Holden names names—not of the errant, but of the impressive list of the New England golf group. Bob Hallock hosted the group in Worcester, Mass., while Hank McDuff did the honors at the Agawam Hunt Club. Among the regulars and occasionals are, in random order, DickHolt, Fred Pickering, Dick Sherwin, JackGraham, Bud Lynch, Brad Jenkins, CharlieHitchcock, Luke Nims, Ben Walkley, GilTanis, and Earl Ward. Experience virtually guarantees that some names are missing. Injured parties may appeal to this department for redress.

TIES THAT BIND. Bob Ross recently attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Philand Ginny Leach, as did Jack and KixRussell whose own 50th is due shordy. Jack was best man at Phil's wedding. Phil was best man at Jack's wedding. Jack and Phil and Bob were roommates. They're still close. Such marriages and friendships must surely be made in heaven.

THE VOICE OF ROYCE. A chatty note from Royce "Randy" Randlett brought a few updating items on this a and that a. First was the reminder that Randy is twice a '38er, starting with us, graduating with '39, then opting (logically) to choose '38 for alumni reunions and records.

Randy likes to spend a yearly weekend in Hanover, often having Dick Francis as tour guide. He also mentions that he still works and likes it, being a "well-treated Sr.-Sr." at his company. Seems like when Randlett talks, E.F. Hutton listens.

DENNEN NOW. This physician has no need to heal himself. Dr. Bud Dennen, after 32 years of family practice in Wellesley, Mass., and a few retirement years in Quechee, Vt., has found Snug Harbor in Kendal at Hanover, a new continuous care retirement community. Bud reckons that about 10 percent of the residents are Dartmouth alumni and that he, Bob Reno, and Bob Emlen represent '38. Obviously these guys still have the still North in their veins, etc.

BURG-ER KING. A recent class-note column to the contrary notwithstanding, J. KingVanDenburg's name is spelled with a "u," not an "e," and he has enjoyed 27 residential addresses, not the seven reported. But who's counting?

Not a guy to trifle with, King was recently designated an Honorable Ail American shooter in the 70-plus age group, piling up an awesome number of "kills." It is reassuring to learn that he aims at clay pigeons rather than class secretaries.
