A Service of Commemoration for President John Sloan Dickey was held at Rollins Chapel on April 13. John Gillespie reports that it was a very moving and nostalgic service and that it reminded all present what a wonderful inspiration John Dickey was to all of us. Christina Dickey Stearns, wife of Stew Stearns, participated in the remarks on behalf of the Dickey family. President Emeritus Dave McLaughlin gave one of the two addresses, and Trustee DickPage took part in the processional. Other '54s attending were Bob Buchanan, Pete Bullis,Dick Danforth, and John Heston.

Joe Mesics reports about BobWoodberry: "He is owner and manager of the Clayton Valley Athletic Club near Concord, Calif. Bob, who invests in turnaround companies, discovered his sweat shop and took it over when it had 1,200 members. A year and a half later, he has attracted 5,200 members with his soft-sell, six-man sales force. He is also the owner of The Old Blues, traditionally the U.S.'s best Rugby Club. Bob can be found every Saturday afternoon keeping score and rooting his team on. By the way, his son, Paul, is a varsity water polo player at Cal. Berkeley. They're National Champs."

The Philadelphia Business Journal reports that the Fidelity Bank N.A. of Philadelphia has named one of its directors, Jack Christy, as acting chairman of the bank, a subsidiary of Newark, N.J. based First Fidelity Bancorportion. Jack has been a member of the boards of Fidelity Bank and its holding company since 1978. The company said he has agreed to serve as chairman in a non-executive capacity on an interim, transitional basis. Among his activities in the not-for-profit world, Jack is a vice president of The Philadelphia Orchestra and The Academy of Music, as well as a director of the academy.

Jim Adams wrote to bring us up to date on his activities in the eighties. His letter is too long and informative to quote in full, but I will hit the highlights and pass on his letter to John Heston for "full disclosure," perhaps including pictures. Jim sold his ski lodge and real estate business in Crested Butte, Colo., early in the decade. He then spent two carefree years in Costa Rica before returning to Denver in late '87. There he met and recently married a wonderful lady, Joan Frieouf, who had spent most of her working career with United Airlines. Jim reports that his children are thriving in non-traditional pursuits: "Cass teaches in Boulder and is compiling a book of stories relating to transformational wilderness experiences. Melissa is a ski patrol person at Park City, Utah, in the winter, and in the summer a river boat guide on the white water of the Arkansas River through Colorado's Royal Gorge. Matt has just graduated from Colorado University in art and philosophy and will try to pursue a career as an artist. Jim and Joan plan to return to Hanover this fall to renew old ties with the College and classmates.
