Incredible. For once there was more news than space. As previously reported, a Wah Hoo Wah of major proportions to Frank C. Herringer, who on April 25 was appointed chief executive officer of Transamerica Corp. This announcement follows an illustrious ten years which found Frank at the center of Transamerica's transformation from a large conglomerate without a main focus to one in which is a world leader in financial services. Frank was groomed for his position while serving as vice president for planning, mergers and acquisitions, then executive VP, and finally president and chief operating officer since 1986. Frank looks forward to making the sort of final decisions required of a CEO for the baby he helped nurture.
Following Dartmouth and Tuck, and before joining Transamerica in 1981, Frank served as a management consultant, then worked on the White House staff in personnel, and then for Urban Mass Transit until he was made head of the BART transit system in San Francisco. Frank relaxes with golf and at his house in Napa Valley. He has a son at the University of Colorado, and he and his wife are thinking about kindergarten for their litde daughter. Frank, it is nice to see someone know what he wants stick with it and succeed.
News is that Herb McCord will serve as chief executive officer of Granite Communications Limited Partnership a partnership between Granite Capital and large investment house Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.to purchase radio stations. Herb, a longtime radio executive and partner in Granite Capital, has another major challenge to face.
