Living in Boston affords me the opportunity to make the two-hour trip to Hanover quite frequently nowadays. One late, sleepy, January afternoon during the hour preceding sundown I was out skating on Occom Pond. Around Meg Devine and myself skated dozens of young, hockey stick-bearing children, a few parents, and a cross-section of Hanover's canine community. I couldn't help but think how Rockwellian the scene was, and how far removed from the reality of city life is Hanover.
Diane Mutti Burke and husband Dave still live in Atlanta, Ga. Diane's working on her Ph.D. dissertation entitled "On Slavery's Border: Slavery and Slaveholding on Missouri's Farms, 1821-1865" at Emory University. Dave's working on a master's in education at Emory while serving as a college counselor at Woodward Academy.
Class President Kathy Heafey was promoted to account executive at Leo Burnett in Chicago last November. She's now working on the Noxzema account.
There are a few engagements I need to catch up on this month. Anthony Vale and JaneWilliams will be married on May 29 in Hanover. They're in school in Albany, N.Y., and can be reached at 294A Hudson Ave., Albany, NY 12210.
Tor Blaisdell and fiancee Gayla Bauer will marry April 23 in Michigan. Gayla has her master's in vocal performance from the New England Conservatory. Tor is studying there for his master's. The two are living in Cambridge, Mass.
Tor said Scott Spring and his wife, Jen, a Denison University graduate, are currently in the middle of a world tour. Their travels first took them to India, where they were doing volunteer work. In the future, they will travel to Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
Sue Domchek sent an aeropostale with the news of her engagement to Bob Vonderherde, whom she describes as "an intern in medicine at Mass. General Hospital and an all-around swell guy." We'll take your word for it, Sue. They were engaged shortly before Sue left for England, where she's spending the year at Oxford University as a Marshall Scholar. The scholarship allows Sue to take a sabbatical from medical school to study English literature.
Sue spent time with Tania Stasiuk last fall, when she was at Oxford finishing her master's in literature. She's currently back in the United States. Other news from Sue: BeckyThomas will finish Stanford Law this year; Jeff Hanissianis in his first year at Penn Medical; and Amy Banulis is now finishing Northwestern Medical school.
This month's column is on the short side for a good reason: I have very little news. I realize most of our lives are not quite as inter- esting as those of the "Melrose Place" char- acters on the Fox network. However, I will take this fact into account if you would be so kind as to send me a few news nibblets once in a while. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
