We celebrated our 20th Reunion in spectacular fashion! With a near-record turnout of more than 180 classmates and over 450 in attendance, a wonderful time was had by all. The early birds began arriving throughout the day on Thursday, June 13, enjoying blue skies, warm temperatures, tennis, and golf. On Friday, there was more good weather, a trip to Mt. Moosilauke, and a reception at Berry Sports Center. All this was followed by a reception at the Hood Courtyard, an alumni parade to dinner at Thompson Arena, a reception at the President's home, a concert by the Dartmouth Glee Club at Spaulding Auditorium, and fun and frolic at the class tent well into the wee hours.
Breakfast at the tent on Saturday morning was followed by a class meeting, a brief report by Class President John Colangelo and the election of class officers for the next five years.
Michael Maynard, who did a superb job over the past five years as head agent, was elected president; Jerry O'Brien, ace newsletter editor, was reelected to his post and as vice president; Ramon "Ray" Marks, who devoted himself over the past many months as reunion treasurer and in assisting in other reunion chores was elected class treasurer; BobLider was elected head agent; and I will continue as secretary with the able assistance of John Shanahan.
Another trek to Mt. Moosilauke followed, along with a host of other activities, including a tennis tournament, a question-and-answer session with President Freedman, and a reunion row along the Connecticut River. Next, there was a panel discussion featuring Former First Boston exec Curt Welling, Governor of Maine and former U.S. Congressman John "Jock" McKernan, Jr. '7O, and Professor Ted Mitchell, chair of the education department at the College and a trustee at Stanford University. A joint outing and field day followed at Red Rolfe Field, then a concert at Spaulding Auditorium by jazz pianist Mike Markaverich, a reception in the Trophy Hall, a roast beef and lobster dinner in the west wing of Alumni Gymnasium, and a joint dance at the class tent with a deejay playing oldies well into the morning.
Sunday brought an early morning alumni run (2-mile and 10K) for alumni and their kids, a breakfast at Thayer Hall and a memorial service at Rollins Chapel. Throughout the festivities, the children were kept occupied by a bevy of activities, including a talent show on Saturday night.
