REUNION DATED JUNE 9-10-11.

Connie Conrad was in Boston recently pinchhitting for Bob Borwell on the Memorial Fund campaign. We are sorry to report that Bob's brother had passed away. Connie had lunch with Jock Brace, Pete Blodgett, Whitey, Boston Chairman Woody Wilson and the writer. Connie then spent a week in New York with the gang. Sons of the following have been accepted at Hanover next fall: Ben Bowden, EdOber, Jock Brace, Bunny Rogers—there, are probably more which we will report later.

Jack Ferguson '15 sends an interesting articlefrom Tulsa from the managing editor of theHolyoke (Mass.) Transcript-Telegram aboutBud Brown in Phoenix:

"For dinner we were taken to Bud Brown's Barn. Now that is a fabulous spot out in the desert. Bud Brown has developed a completely western establishment filled with the atmosphere of that land extending back from the wild west stagecoach days to modern times. It is strictly Arizona and yet the first thing I spotted behind the stage, on which a troupe of cowboys was performing with song and string music, was a large Dartmouth banner. The green was a bit faded, but there was no mistaking the fact that somewhere in the house there was a loyal son of Dartmouth. And that loyal son was none other than Bud Brown himself.

"Bud, dolled up in his western garb, told me of his boyhood days" in Middletown, Conn., and reminisced about the Connecticut Valley. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1925 and fed up with the east, he lit out for Arizona. 'I got off at Phoenix and I knew I was home,' he told me. Bud hasn't been back to Dartmouth since he grabbed his sheepskin in 1925, but he's going back this June for his 25th reunion. Holyokers who plan to be at the Dartmouth Commencement this year had better look him up. He's fabulous. Bud says that when he came to Arizona a quarter of a century ago there was but one fellow Dartmouth alumnus in the entire state. He was the postmaster at Prescott. Now Phoenix alone has a Dartmouth Club with 11 members. It's indicative of the steady march of easterners to the Southwest in recent years. Bud's sister Connie graduated from Mt. Holyoke in 1928 and is now married and living in Montana. He spent lots of time in Holyoke, South Hadley and Northampton in the early 1920's."

Eddie Edwards has been made a director of the A. &P. Food Stores of New England—he is also Personnel Manager. Frank Wallis has just returned from a four-day shakedown cruise on the new flattop U. S. S. Leyte as guest of the Captain—"Quite a thrill," says he.

At the monthly class luncheon of the Boston gang the following checked in: Johnny Garrod,Hal Stevens, Karl Lipsholm, Frank Wallis,Whitey, Bill Sleigh, Eddie Pease, Homer Tilton,,Ken Nugent, Ben Bowden (who has taken up golf seriously), Clint TaylorJoe Leavitt,Scoof Newton and Nate Bugbee.

Curt Abel was good enough to write in about the New York dinner. I didn't realize it but Curt is with Young & Rubicam—JackReeder's former firm: "It may not be worthy of note that 1925 failed again to take the attendance prize at the annual dinner at the Commodore on the 12th, but the following 13 of us who turned out had a pleasant evening and a visit with Don Hunt of Boston who joined us: Milt Emerson, Len Larrabee, Mac Shepard,Bob Misch, Marty Huberth, Patch Thompkins,Walt VomLehn, Jibber Gutterman, FrankBrick, Dick Nye, Paul Jerman, Jack Reeder and myself. All reports indicate that your boys are doing a fine job on the Reunion plans. Of course, I am looking forward to seeing you there."

There follow parts of a letter to Ford Whelden from Bob McKennan. Bob and Kay are touring the West.

"I fear I haven't done much for you regarding '25ers but the truth is I have seen very few. Two days running while in San Diego I tried to call Ted Geisel in La Jolla but could rouse no one so I presume they were away. I did see Tom Carpenter in Palo Alto where he is General Secretary of Stanford. I realized we are getting along when he told me that his older daughter was visiting them bringing Tom's new grandchild. The younger girl is still at the University of Colorado and made the trip to Hanover this Carnival staying at the Phi Psi house. Tom said he would be unable to make Hanover this June which is understandable since commencement is his busy time at Stanford.

"I spent a day fishing with Walt Baumann in San Francisco Bay and we also had a visit with Walt's good family at their home. Walt has two girls and a boy. The latter headed for Dartmouth a few years hence. Walt is one of the right hand men of David Bohannon, one of the Pacific Coast's big builders. Among other things, Walt handles the San Lorenzo housing development across the bay. He had returned from a marlin fishing expedition to Mexico in company with his boss. Walt and Charlotte are planning on making the Reunion and hope to pick up the Fred Dolds en route.

"I was sorry not to see Pete Kelsey but he was not in the city the day I went into San Francisco. As you know he is manager of Marsh McLennan there. That I guess, covers my contacts to date. Kay and I had a wonderful three weeks in California and left Palo Alto only two days ago en route to Portland. Once there we will at last turn east and hope to make Hanover some time before Reunion."

Excerpts from a later letter from Bob McKennan: "En route from Portland to Helena, Mont., we visited two '25ers: (1) my old roomie Will McLaughlin, and (2) Nat Torbert. Will and his family make their home at Chewelah, Wash., in a lovely valley some 60 miles north of Spokane. Will, who took his Ph.D. in Botany, was with the Soil Conservation Service of the Department of Agriculture, but resigned from this service about two years ago to devote his full time to a growing business in perennial flower seeds. Any Classmates who garden as a hobby might keep their eyes open for 'McLaughlin's Seeds.' Will and Mabel have two handsome boys, Tommy, tee 10 and Johnny, age 8. Both like the outdoors and consequently have their eyes turned toward Dartmouth.

"Nat Torbert, who took his Ph.D. in Geography, is with the U. S. Reclamation Service at Boise, Idaho where he is Planning Engineer for the entire' northwest region, which includes among other things the Columbia Valley development. ("Grand Coulee, etc.) Elise is very active in civic affairs particularly the League of Women Voters. Indeed she left the day following our visit for the League's National Convention at Atlantic City."

Joe Leavitt's photo made the paper on the 18th. After 24 years with a leading Boston department store, R. H. Stearns, most recently in charge of about 12 departments, Joe resigned to become a partner in M. T. Bird & Co. (Pres. Phil Bird '19), social stationers and engravers, in the capacity of Executive Vice-President and merchandising manager. They have three stores in Boston. Joe is also Vice-President of the Exchange Club of Boston and Chairman of our wives at reunion.

From up North, Park Merrow sez: "I do write and tell U that the bond deal in Ossipee is shot out from under U for the time being as the town voted to transport the young reptiles instead of building. Glad that the Memorial Fund is coming so well. Will you give me some ideas for the 1925 Messenger? ShermBarnett has just forwarded a bunch of copy from Chicago. I want some kidding ads on the Massachusetts delegation, you remember the style we used in the issue of 10 years ago. Can and will do' Add 1925 notes—Sherm Barnett is extra busy, just having made a quick trip to the Coast and doubts if he will be able to make the 25th. Sort of dancing with tears in his eyes."

Recent visitors to the Hanover Inn include Dr. and Mrs. Joe Pierson, Hopewell, N. J.; the Gerry Goulds, Middletown, N. Y.; and ParkMerrow.

Gulf Oil's Publicity Service announces that George Scott is now Manager of the Personnel Division of Employee Relations and further states: "Mr. Scott joined the firm two years ago and has been engaged primarily in employee training and allied functions. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College with post graduate work at Boston University and Yale. Formerly he was Professor and Head of the Department of Education and Associate in Personnel at Dartmouth."

SEE YOU IN HANOVER, I HOPE!
