Ken and Harle Montgomery, with Baker Librarian Ed Lathem, attended a memorial service for Ted Geisel in the San Diego Museum of Art November 18 and sent back, as did Larry Leavitt, important material on our Ted (in next letter).
Pete Blodgett was in Savannah for Louise Lane's birthday December 19, which 240 people attended! A regular wing-ding, all fall of old-fashioned, southern-style hospitality. Pete went home the next day to recuperate. November 2 he attended the Harvard game with Don and Barbara Hunt and was excited by the Green's great comeback in the second half to tie at 31. First, of course, a good tailgate lunch. Pete wore his father's old coonskin coat, which caused quite a sensation-the only one, Pete believes, in the whole Harvard stadium. He had the coat in college and used to rent it out if he couldn't make a game. It was returned once with a silver flask in the inside pocket. Pleasant surprise!
Betty Sleigh had granddaughter Susan down from Concord, N.H., for Thanksgiving. Susan's sister Anne had to stay at the University of Washington, where she is working for a master's degree. She likes it but finds it challenging. She joined her sister for Christmas at home. Betty has been properly busy, always energetic. She looks forward to five weeks in the Caribbean, leaving January 20.
Bobby White went to her daughter's for both Thanksgiving and Christmas in Winchester. Right after Christmas she went "down" to York Harbor, Maine. She and husband Whitey, like Betty and Bill Sleigh, were for years sailors on Maine windjammers, where they were right in their element.
Molly Bates had a successful cataract operation early last fall and was thrilled by the result. She went to Houston to spend Christmas with son Ben, his wife, and Molly's two grandchildren. She hasn't lost a bit of her zest or energy.
Larry Leavitt planned to attend the wedding of grandson Tom Cheney February 1 in Boca Raton. Margaret Cheney McNally, Tom's sister who lives across the street, also went. Larry hopes to see Fran Sahm, Marian Abel, and Haven in Sarasota. Great day for Larry!
