We were grieved by the death of Dot Leavitt on October 16. Larry wrote, "She died peacefully in the next room. I'm glad to say that she had very little pain throughout her illness (several weeks), and then only near the end." She had a lovely memorial service November 6 at St. Barnabas Church in Norwich, attended by more than a hundred. Her age was 90. She was born in Newton, Mass., the daughter of Edward K. and Sally Drew Hall, graduated Phi Beta Kappa fromVassarin 192 5. Married in 1926, she lived eight years in Marion, Mass., then in Saxton's River, where Larry was headmaster of Vermont Academy. After his retirement she lived in Norwich. While in Saxton's River she was a trustee of die Federate Church. She was later a trustee of the Vermont Children's Aid Society, the Howe Library in Hanover, and the White Mountain School in Littleton, N.H. Dot was known for her love of New England and the outdoors, and she enjoyed trout fishing, cross-country skiing, and gardening. She and Larry were married 67 years. Her family includes, besides Larry, a daughter, Sally Bell, son Richard of Laconia, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dot will be remembered for her sweet and strong personality. The service was arranged by nephew Daniel Leavitt and granddaughter Dorothy Seyfarth. More in the newsletter, including "Vermont Academy Evening Song" by Dot.
Athletic Director Dick Jaeger awarded Larry a signal honor between the halves of the Harvard game. He said: "The pennants flying above Memorial Field represent Dartmouth's unprecedented 16 Ivy football titles. They were given to the College in honor of Larry Leavitt '25 for his 30 years of service to Dartmouth and the Athletic Sponsor Program." We congratulate Larry. What better way to be honored than by pennants flying over the field!
The October 30 mini at Radford Tanzer's house was a success. He served splendid libations. Radford, Larry Leavitt, and Scoofand Gertrude Newton, and CarolineMcDonough graced our party as always, this time bringing husband Dick to add to our pleasure. Dinner at the Sheraton was a huge success.
