Fifty-four years ago many of you brand-new fraternity members had your first Winter Carnival date. Do you remember her name? For me, no problem. My kids all call her Mom.
Frank Reeves just made his debut at the Cape Cod Club luncheon. After many years as a summer resident he has settled in here year-'round. Gordon Wentworth, BillSquire, and Bill Daniels, all Newton high school graduates and Dartmouth roommates, had a November reunion at the Daniels' place in Salem, S.C. Didi and Bob Gensel have invited us to join them on another Dartmouth Alumni College Abroad trip—this time to Egypt. It would be terrific, but we plan to be in Alaska instead.
The Ledyard Canoe Club News reports on two of our classmates' exploits: "The unstoppable Walker Weed with three other local paddlers started above the Arctic Circle and paddled 140 miles north on the Tree River to the Arctic Ocean. Joe Harpham, who once had die Connecticut River freeze up on him as he was paddling, helped clear the new 10th Mountain Division Lookout on the rise opposite Mt. Moosilauke."
Alice and Jack Fitzgerald had a pleasant visit at Hilton Head with Jane and Ed Doyle. Later, at New Mexico State University, jack was a member of the panel on a "Guadalcanal Symposium" recalling the heroic exploits in WW II of so many soldiers, including several of our classmates.
Tom George, a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement and Leadership Award at the Lincoln Center celebration, was our star at the 1940 table. He was accompanied by his wife and son, as well as his former art teacher, Professor Emeritus Churchill Lathrop (91years), the prof's niece, John Moore, and Louise and Bud Hewitt. It was a gala occasion, thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Our Hanover football scout, John Manley, reports that the first Hewitt award to a varsity football scholar-athlete was presented to Rob Birge '92, who came to the College from Aurora, Colo., and is now living in Albuquerque.
Jack Little returned just before Christmas with his beautiful new bride, the former JeanRemmel, from a three-week honeymoon journey to London and Paris via the QE II. Those who met Jean at our mini-reunion in October are convinced that Jack is a very lucky guy. Highlights of their trip included making die acquaintance of former Surgeon General Everett Koop '37 and his wife, Betty, and finding the price of a martini at a Paris restaurant had risen to 11 dollars. (Secretary's note: Next time in Paris forget the gin and drink the wine.)
Tom Todd has announced the closing of his printing company in Boston. The company had been in business for five generations, 127 years. Our 50th Reunion book was designed and printed by his company.
