From Rudy Pacht '35 came a copy of the moving remarks made by Bill Farley's daughter at a memorial service for Bill on July 31. Rudy also enclosed a copy of a Southern California Club newsletter in which a paragraph described Bill's extraordinary involvement in the club's events over the years.
We're indebted to Whip Walser '32 for sending a clipping from a Missoula, Mont., newspaper describing Bob Dilley's five years of volunteering through Missoula's hospice and senior companion programs to work with terminally ill individuals. Bob's comments "Where else can I put what energy I have left and still make a difference?" leave me without words adequate to express my admiration for his efforts. Whip wrote that he had recently gotten together with Bob for a visit.
Season's greetings from Al Bucher, KirkBaron, Mildred and Bob Powell, Libby andVance Dickerman, Art Spiegel, and EdPicken were much appreciated. Four among them are "probables" for our 60th.
A four-page letter from that same Kirk Baron was so interesting that his attendance at our 60th now becomes mandatory so that classmates can hear about his years in the merchant marine. Kirk last owned a car in 1944 and now bicycles daily, but does no walking. He can use a lift to and from Hanover for the 60th, but if none is available he'll find a train or bus. As did Jim Lyall, Kirk sent me a clipping from the New York Times of the obituary of Bill Wilson, who in 1942 helped Kirk get a job at Republic Aviation.
November 17 at Palmer Stadium was a great day. The steady rain which may have been the reason I saw no other '31ers I did not hamper the strong ground game of our football team. Let's start thinking about getting a big 1931 out at the game during our mini next fall.
Recommended reading is the final report of the Planning Steering Committee. Now comes the tough job the decisions on it to be taken by the Board of Trustees.
Don't forget our June 60th!
