36 On a hot Saturday in mid-June, Dede Foster entertained Bill Niss, my wife, Nancy, and me at her summer cottage in South Free-port, Maine. The food was fine, the view of dozens of boats below and islands in the distance was spectacular, and the breeze off the water was most refreshing. On that same weekend, Bill and Stina Martens were in warm Hanover to attend their granddaughter's graduation. Reports are that at the same time they were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary a month late. Speaking of anniversaries, Frank and GerryKappler also joined the ranks of those celebrating a half century of wedded bliss.

Boyce Price reported that more than 50 members of the '36 family were expected to attend the July lobster picnic at Mystic, Conn. (No doubt Kappler will have a report on this in Tithe.) Boyce also said that he has recuperated well from his hip replacement in February and has been getting his exercise by swimming laps and playing golf.

Bob Fernald reported that the class of '36 is doing very well indeed in supporting the Dartmouth Athletic Sponsors program. A mailing sent out by Bob gained an additional 18 sponsors in just a few weeks, which gave the class a total of 47 backers by mid-June and put us in the number-one spot among all classes. If you are not already a member of the group, you might give it some consideration for the coming year. On a personal note, Bob said he and Tanna have been putting in many hours of hard work around their Etna aerie, and I'm sure that by the time you read this their place will be in beautiful shape, as usual.

In June Bill Niss was hopeful that we would make our Alumni Fund goal and said that the participation rate was very good. Bill has been working very hard as head agent, and it looks as though his efforts have been rewarded.

The date for the fall mini-reunion is somewhat earlier than usual this year, so if you haven't made plans to join the group for this get-together, now is the time to do it. The football team will be playing Penn, and there will be class dinners on both Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19. Come share the fun! See you in Hanover.
