This is the last notice from this column about our 70th reunion, which will be held October 6-8. You should have received formal notice of various activities from the College before now. We do hope that all those who are physically able to attend will do so. It should be a very interesting weekend.
I just came from a luncheon with other Dartmouth alumni at the Cumberland Club in Portland, Maine. An informal group has been meeting there once a month for many years. In fact, at one time there were often four of us '36ers in attendance: Pete Fitzherbert, Bill Niss, Brad Chase and myself. Unfortunately, attendance has been declining recently, and last month there were only five or six instead of 15 to 20. The club was understandably upset about providing a private room for so few people. After the luncheon there was to be a discussion concerning methods of getting the attendance back up to where it used to be. Sadly I had to leave the luncheon early—basically to get this column in on time—and did not hear any of the discussion. I hope to be able to report in a future column that we're back up to a reasonablesized group.
There is some sad news to report; two more of our classmates have died. William H. Wood passed away back in February 2005. After Dartmouth Bill earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry at MIT. In 1939 he joined DuPont and worked there for many years. Morris Stein died April 8. Morrie worked in a family business for 49 years and was very active in community affairs. He was also active in '36 affairs, particularly in fund-raising for the class. We offer our condolences to the families of both men.
