Dr. Richard Abraham has been dispensing primary care to the good folks in Canton, Conn., for 15 years. His wife, Judy, is a physical therapist also with a private practice, also in the same building. They enjoy sailing, both ice and water windsurfing (sometimes with Harriet and Jeff Winograd), and spend lots of time in ballet appreciation, watching and encouraging 15-year old Paula, who's training to be a professional ballet dancer. Joseph is a senior philosophy major at Brandeis. Jonathon is studying economics and religion at Bucknell.
In Syracuse, N.Y., Richard Alderman has been practicing matrimonial law at Alderman & Alderman for 22 years. He and Maxene have two girls, Rachel, a freshman at Union College, and Andrea, a sixth grader.
Joe Allen's been corporate lawyering at Dunn, Leader & Allen in Worcester, Mass., for more than 20 years. He coaches a church junior high school basketball team and likes boating. Ginny is a guidance counselor at Notre Dame Academy. Joe IV is a musician and student at Worcester State College. Elizabeth has completed her first year at Bates College, while Tom has just finished his junior year in high school.
The director of compensation and benefits at General Signal Corporation is Bob Bach, no small feat when you consider GSC has 15,000 employees. Jennene is VP and controller of the local New Canann (Conn.) Bank & Trust, and son Chris has been admitted to Dartmouth in the class of '96 (that's '96, not '66, ugh!)
Chris is bound to ran into Dick Birnie, a professor of geology at Dartmouth and a dean of graduate studies. Pietie Birnie organizes student exchanges between Hanover and its sister city, Joigny, in Burgundy, France. (She just led a group to France in June.) And there are three Birnies moving through the Hanover school system: Katherine, 15, in high school; Peter, going into sixth grade; and Elizabeth, heading to first.
Frank Blod reports that he has plateaued as a "B" tennis player, but his career at New England Consulting Group has continued to soar. As a partner at the consumer marketing management firm, Frank applies the hands-on experience he acquired during 15 years on the "client-side" to a variety of challenging projects. Marcie stays busy with school and community volunteer work, after ferrying Christie 17, Linsey 14, and Amy 10 from activity to activity around New Canaan, Conn.
Talk about loyalty—Richard Brigden has been with Interstate/Johnson Lane, a Charlotte, N.C., investment concern, for 25 years. Dick, a senior VP, specializes in public finance. He and Betsty regret missing our 25th, but they had a first-rate alibi: daughter Beth graduated summa cum laude from Ohio State that weekend. Kristin will graduate with a B.S. in social work from North Carolina State next spring.
Steve Shipps, an art professor at Harvard's School of Education and an accomplished photographer, has been awarded a fellowship by the Getty Center for Education in the Arts. The prestigious Doctoral Fellowship Program is designed to provide scholars with support for their doctoral dissertations in art education research. Only four individuals received the $12,500 grant. Steve's dissertation tide is "Last Impressions? On the Need for Definition in 'Art 101."'
Champlain College, a two-year school in Burlington, Vt. providing a career-oriented curriculum in business management and accounting, has named Roger Perry president. Roger has been at the institution since 1982, initially as VP of Academic Affairs and, most recently, as provost. Roger was a Peace Corps volunteer in the Marshall Islands, earned his Ph.D. in educational administration at Syracuse, and was associate superintendent in the St. Louis Public Schools. He and Heather have two children now in college.
Earlier this year the investment firm of Kidder, Peabody announced a group of senior vice presidents in a Wall Street Journal ad. Four Dartmouth alums, including our own TomLips, were among them.
