Marty Stouffer's "Wild America" is one of the best nature programs on PBS. Thus it was with special pride that we watched a recent airing: "Magnificent As A Moose." Always glad to get a little publicity for our clan.
How about this for a first: Bob and MargePaulson's granddaughter Teri Balser graduated June 14'with the Class of 1992. She's off to Berkeley for advanced studies in environmental sciences. Let's give a rouse for Teri, and a wah hoo wah for Grampa and Gramma! Any challenges for this "first?"
On a cruise down the Amazon River, JohnAhem discovered that a '45 classmate was one of the distinguished academicians the shipping line has on board to enlighten the paying passengers: Dick Momsen. John described Dick as "a delightful individual who fared well in life and is probably one of our outstanding intellectuals." Prof. Momsen retired after teaching Geography for 20 years at the University of Calgary, Alberta; he has written three books on Brazil.
Not long ago Art and Jean Pounds came to lunch with Joan and me in Greensboro, all the way from Orinda, Calif. It's no coincidence that their son lives in nearby Winston Salem. The Pounder has acceded, graciously, to my cries for help, and will guest-write this column in the not too distant future. Stay tuned.
In late June the'45 version of the Greater Greensboro Open was held at the immaculate Greensboro Country Club. Host John Oakley '5O was joined by John "Long Putter"Gooding, Tracy Mitchell from Raleigh, and Moose "High Handicap" Rowan. Tracy paid everyone. Are there any other '45 tourneys out there?
A confessed "World War II reunion junkie" living in Knoxville, Tenn., Henry Barker attended an 8th Air Force get together in Savannah. He put in many years of Reserve flying, and his two wonderful daughters in California and Virginia have helped him bear the loss of his wife, Marilyn.
