Fleeting September has fled and the deadline approaches. Tomorrow Dartmouth plays Penn, and with luck I shall join the vociferous Green minority at Franklin Field, where Hanlon won his Penn Relays watch. Expect to see Delaware Valley classmates.
People in the news... Russ Sherburne named Chief Scientist at White Sands Missile Range. Formerly chief physicist at the New Mexico State University's Physical Science Laboratory in Las Cruces, Russ assumes direction of technical policy for the western hemisphere's largest all-land rocket and missile testing center. He will be advisor to the commanding general in the scientific and technical direction of the missile range. A nationally known author in the missile and rocket field, Russ lives just outside Las Cruces with his wife Eleanor and their five children: Donald, thirteen; Kathleen, twelve; Francena, eight; Eleanor, six; and Constance! five. Exciting news about this quiet fellow from Tyngsboro, Mass., playing a vital role in space age.... Well-known in the midwest, Jack serves many Indiana civic and industrial committees in addition to his widespread business interests ... and he got to Hanover for the reunion, too.... His wife Marjorie, who graced the Hanover campus our senior year, has raised three sturdy boys, Andrew, Scott and Russell....
Church Leonard, survivor of the 15th Reunion along with his wife Dorothy and four children: Jack, fifteen; Bob, thirteen; Ruth, eleven; and Jim, six, writes to tell how much fun they had in Hanover ... and they are already looking forward to the 20th.
Incidentally, anyone wishing a photograph of the 10th Reunion may obtain one free of charge (and that's no small statement for this group) from Paul Young at the College in Hanover. Our 10th committee neglected to print and distribute them. Good evidence of how you looked five years ago.... Our efficient 15th Reunion Committee handled things so well we came out with a small surplus.
Family department... The Ed O'Briens welcomed their fifth child, Christopher Emmet, at the Georgetown University Medical Center on July 21, 1959.... The Mel Fenichells have celebrated the arrival of Christopher Barry Fenichell on July 12, 1959, by moving to larger quarters at 32 Wakeman Road, Darien, Conn.... Wonderful picture of Bud Kast and his attractive family in September "Suburban Life." Angela is just as attractive as my favorite Chesterfield girl too long ago.
All of us are saddened by the sudden passing of Warner Grubb, and I am sure there are many of you who knew him well. As time thins our ranks, it leaves a void felt by everyone. Our most sincere sympathy to Anne Grubb and her family in this great loss.
Incidentally, I need a copy of our freshman Green Book, which I couldn't afford to buy freshman year. Wouldn't want to purchase it now as a rare book, but if there is anyone having an extra copy, its gift would be considered a noteworthy contribution to the general fund of knowledge or general fun - your choice. Have a nice Thanksgiving. ... Thank God he doesn't charge for his secretary's time.
Cy Thompson, who after ten years still prefers Berkeley to Times Square, is now with J. Arthur Rank in the new Rank-Xeros Company. They have a revolutionary process for office document reproduction. Cy will be having to hit the road, and as the organization-happy U. S. undoubtedly has a crying need for his services, I trust we'll be welcoming him home soon.
Ed Roewer, after a very successful eight-year tour with the Reading, Mass. school system, is moving over to Gloucester. I can't recall whether I've told you that Jack Lawrence was mayor of Twinsburg, Ohio. He is president of the Twinsburg-Miller Corporation, one of the leading roofing materials manufacturers. Last spring, fire gutted one of his plants and the added responsibilities obliged Jack to resign as mayor. All reports indicate that he did a remarkable job in both capacities.
I doubt if there ever was a politico as well loved by his constituents as Stan "TheMan" Zarod. They've given him testimonial dinners, an automobile, their votes ad infinitum and now they've just tossed a lavish Family Picnic in his honor. George Cummings has recently been named Executive Assistant Manager of the E. San Juan Inter.
