As '22, last of the small classes, continues its nonagenarian years, we applaud the cheerful results of Dartmouth's record-breaking 1993 Alumni Fund. The $12.9- million total in a feeble economy indicates that in the Dartmouth family, "Though 'round the girdled earth they roam, her spell on them remains."
Twenty-two contributed $48,830, the second highest amount among the "veteran classes," 1908-1922. The '22 contributors included ten alumni living at campaign time. Incidentally, the class has had 18 alumni who contributed annually to the Fund for 65 years or more. The 1993 participants also included eight deceased classmates who had provided in their wills for an annual Fund donation. Special gratitude goes to 17 wives and seven children and friends of departed classmates. The class also received matching gifts from four educationally conscious businesses.
Consequently, on behalf of '22, class president Jack Dodd warmly thanks every participant who made the class's loyalty to Dartmouth still evident.
Old-timers are now welcoming the class of 1997 to Dartmouth. The class has 578 boys and 512 young women. They come from 805 schools. They include 174 school valedictorians and 85 salutatorians. Their SAT medians are Math 710 and Verbal 630. And 1997 has 35 football aspirants, including 16 who weigh at least 220 pounds each.
