This time of year always seems busy for people, so I'm delighted to have received some unsolicited mail. Keep it coming! PaulChurchill reported in "for the first time in six years" from an exotic location Jakarta, Indonesia. Two-thirds of the way through a three-year joint degree program at the University of Michigan, where he's working through an M.B.A. and an M.A. in Southeast Asian studies, Paul spent the summer as an intern for Reebok International. He put those freebie test samples to work climbing a volcano in Java (so if you thought you saw another Dartmouth sweatshirt on the volcano during your hike that day, that was Paul) and later traveled to Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Paul also forwarded news on Drew Martin, who married his longtime sweetheart, Melissa '85, at the end of May, and ConradSmith, who was a classmate and section mate at Michigan. Paul thinks Conrad "might be in Chicago." (Conrad? Verification?)
Another foreign postmark hailed from Mark Brzezinski, who wrote from St. Antony's College in Oxford. A 1991 graduate of UVA law school, Mark journeyed to Warsaw, Poland, on a Fulbright Scholarship to work with die new Polish Constitutional Court and to teach comparative law and comparative politics at the University of Warsaw. His wife, Carolyn, also a graduate of UVA law, worked in a law firm in privatization and foreign investment. This month Mark begins a doctoral program with the Faculty of Political Science at Oxford.
I enjoyed an Alumni Fund solicitation call from Caroline Sobota this summer, which rapidly deteriorated into a lengthy chat. She and husband Roman recently returned from the wedding of Betsy Park and Jeff Johnson '85, in Denver, where Lynn Mahoney and Jen Tisdel did their sisterly duty as bridesmaids. Lynn is working for a law firm in Nashville, and Jen has returned to her native West Coast to market Starbuck's Coffee in Seattle. Free samples, Jen? The wedding was apparently a blast, and this active group found lots of outdoor games to play, including some steep mountain biking in Vail.
Bethany Rogers is working for education guru Ted Sizer's Coalition of Essential Schools in Providence, R.I., while Jay Filderman works for Shearson Lehman in Texas. Susannah Drake took time out from her pursuit of master's degrees in architecture and landscape architecture to marry Stephen Culhane, a New York attorney, in August. Gordon Cook is the proud owner of an M.B.A. from the Darden Graduate School of Business at UVA. He is employed by Citi Corp in New York. Paul Yannalfo was promoted to branch manager of the Dedham Institute for Savings in Dedham (Mass.) Square. Formerly assistant branch manager at the Westwood office, Paul coaches an Andover youth basketball league in his free time.
