Believe it or not, I received so much news for this column that I will most assuredly have holdover. I think it has something to do with the holidays. People actually get nostalgic and write—or call, as the case may be.
Paul Sehl got a little carried away even for the holidays, calling from a pay phone at JFK Airport to fill us in on his frightening experience at a Dartmouth Christmas lunch in Chicago. It seems the lone computer software consultant was surrounded by lawyers at a table of ten: our own Mike Klupchak, Marty Hall, and Dave Duggan, plus Joe Yastrow '75 John Christy '80, and Mike Behn '83. Paul and Dave discovered that Paul's son's best friend lives in the house in which Dave grew up in Lake Forest, so there was an element of Twilight Zone about. Mike and Marty felt right at home, however, as the luncheon was partly a recruiting event for football prospects, three of whom made up the rest of the table. CharlieBox, mayor of Rockford, Ill. (140,000 people), occupied the speaker's platform, so it was truly a '73 event.
Lest Paul excommunicate me from the ranks of Fund agents, please start thinking about the Alumni Fund Campaign which is now in full swing!
Rick Winkler '74 wrote to let us know that Rick Routhier has been named chairman of the board of trustees of St. Stephen's School in Rome, Italy. Both Ricks attended St. Stephen's, where Rick Winkler is also a board member. Sounds like he really loved the place he writes, "It's a small school but there are those who love it."
On February 1 Kelvin Chin opened a Las Vegas office of the American Arbitration Association, where he is regional vice president. Kel collected his master's from Yale, where he was a National Defense Foreign Language Fellow, and hisJ.D. from Boston College Law. Fie has been involved in mediation and arbitration activities since 1986 as a facilitator, trainer, and guest lecturer at California Western and University of San Diego Law Schools. Good luck, Kel!
As always, my Christmas card from Pat andMartin Buerger had a loving picture of their three children, Michael 7, Emily 5, and Meredith 4. While I can't share that, I think I would be forgiven for sharing the note: "Pat and I have been living in Menlo Park for the last six years. Our three children are charming, energetic and occasionally a handful, and we enjoy every moment with them. I spend too much time working, I'm afraid. I am vice president of planning and business development at Dialog Information Services. It is a challenging assignment divining the future of electronic information in a rapidly changing world. Pat has returned to selling textbooks (on substance-abuse prevention and health and wellness) in her 'spare time.' She likes being with the kids and having the chance to continue her career."
