Lawyers and doctors and bears, oh my! Several months ago, I sent out the call. "Has anyone seen jeff Lamont?," I implored. Miracles do happen. Late last month, I received a copy of an article titled, "Support Group For Patients With Prostate Cancer Forms." The Wayland Town Crier reports that Dr. Jeffrey Lamont, a urologist, helped form a network of support groups for the cancer patients. Jeff practices at Newton- Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts. Yes, JeffLamontis thriving. Now—has anyone seen Paul Jacoby?
Dr. Marc Feldman has co-authored a new book, Patient or Pretender: Inside the StrangeWorld of Factitious Disorders, diseases that do not really exist. My analysis: if the diseases don't exist, why write abouth them, draw attention to them, and encourage people to go on believing they're sick when they are not? Dr. Feldman is currently medical director and vice chair for Clinical Services at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and is also a professor of psychiatry and neurobiology at UAB.
Webb Vorys has become a partner in the Columbus, Ohio, law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour & Pease. Webb has also been appointed a night magistrate in the local courts. Webb hears and disposes of DWI, public indecency, and other misdeamenor violations. A strong field of applicants applied for the position, but Webb's superior, real-world experience won over the selection committee.
Classmates are starting to look to me to do their dirty work for them. Bob Schpoont wrote to reveal the "heretofore hidden talents of our classmate Dr. Scott Zashin." Bob sent along photos of Scott performing with the Temptations at a concert in Dallas and urged me to "publish the photos for maximum embarrassment." The photos were duly forwarded to this magazine. I do not know what has become of them. A quick, forensic review revealed the entire audience to be dressed in black tie. This was not your typical Temptations concert, but most likely a convention of physicians. So whatthey were still the Temptations. As for Bob, he lives in Manhattan where he consults with small businesses and high-net-worth individuals. Bob harbors a formerly secret desire to start up a restaurant. Last summer, he took a professional chefs course.
The last time I wrote about BarbaraBriggs it was to report a change in her residence. Now, Barbara has some really impor- tant news. She has become a real-estate partner at the venerable New York law firm of Millbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy.
Adam Eisgrau, formerly a Washington lawyer in private practice, has joined the staff of California Senator Dianne Feinstein. Adam helped Senator Feinstein shepard a bill banning assault weapons through the Senate. Adam and his wife, Shelley, live on Capitol Hill in a church that was converted to a condomininum. Adam is president of the condominium association.
Also on the D.C. beat is Jenny Kugel, chief of staff to Oregon Representative Elizabeth Furse. Jenny, a veteran of the political wars, among them Paul Tsongas's 1992 New Hampshire primary surprise, specializes in banking issues. She recently moved to the suburbs after she ran out of space in her downtown apartment.
And now, for those of you who tire of reading of lawyers and doctors . . .
Peggy and Jerry Walke had their second son, Cody Steven Walke, who joins his brother Ryan. The Walkes planned to hit the slopes January 15. They were headed for Bear Valley, Calif., where three-year-old Ryan was to strap on the boards for the first time. Jerry, who works in technical support for Systems Plus, a medical software vendor, resolved this New Year to lower his golf handicap. Peggy is in the finance department at Syntex, a large pharmaceutical manufacturer.
The wonders of e-mail are upon us. ChrisMcCade zapped a message by modem. She and her husband, Scott, just had their second child, Daniel Kieran, who joins his three- year-old sister Eryn Colleen and their playmate, a quarter horse/thoroughbred-cross mare named Noelle, who is 10. Chris and Scott live on two wooded acres just 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia. Sounds idyllic, except for the Philadelphia part (just kidding—wanted to see if the Philly fanatics were still reading). Chris and Scott work for Roham and Haas, a manufacturer of specialty chemicals, which they take care not to feed to Noelle.
