The sheets for our 50th Reunion Book were mailed to you some time ago. George Barr has received some, but maybe yours wasn't among them. It's quite an undertaking to produce this book, and it can't be done without your help. If you haven't already done so, please get your thoughts back to George ASAP.
The College's Office of Financial Aid advised us that last fall Lischa Barrett '95 of Memphis, Tenn., was able to benefit from the Class of 1945 Memorial Fund to fly home when her grandmother, with whom she lived, became gravely ill. Lischa is on the student- loan program and has a scholarship, so her funds are very limited. She's a classics major with a solid B average. Our fund is used for student emergencies, and it is good to hear of a recent example.
Life continues apace for Martha and JohnHoldridge. Last year they were in Indonesia, Singapore, and Hong Kong, where they saw old friends from years past. Then a visit to Okinawa to see daughter Pat and her family. John finished his manuscript on normalization of U.S. relations with China and at last report was seeking a publisher. He continues to work with Harvest International to attract foreign investment to countries in Southeast Asia. In addition, he lectures and consults.
Out Colorado Springs way, Fred Campbell completed his dissertation about Mercy Otis Warren's role in the American Revolution, the final requirement for his Ph.D. in history from the University of Colorado. In summer 1993 Fred taught U.S. history from 1865 to 1918. He serves as vice chairman and general counsel of Financial Mortgage Corp. (Quite a fall plate, Fred and Amy. Hope your schedule will include our 50th Reunion next June 9-11).
A dispatch from Senor Frank Aldrich, on the eve of his departure for the Inter-American Development Bank meetings in Guadalajara, Mexico, states that John and Annette Ahern were enjoying the good life aboard the Stella Solaris. They must like Greek food; this is their third voyage on that ship.
Early this year Elaine Andrews traveled to San Antonio, where her granddaughter won the cross-country nationals for 12-year- olds! She inquired, "Does Dartmouth have a women's team?" You can bet on it, Elaine. Hope your stay in Sanibel and Naples, Fla., was enjoyable.
An old WW II story surfaced recently. Sometime in the early forties, at the Narsarssuak Air Base in southern Greenland, John McCauley won, in a lottery, a bottle of rare scotch. Naturally, good fellow that he is, John shared it immediately. One of the lucky sharers was Hank Barker, who 50 years later recalled the pleasant incident and asked Frank Aldrich about John's where- abouts. (Talk about casting your bread on the waters—wow!)
The mail bag is flat. Unless fodder rolls in, next month's effort will be severely truncated.
