The weekend of October 14-15, saw an active, happy crowd of'47s gathering at the Norwich Inn early Friday morning. Many arrived the night before, and all were on hand for an 11 a.m. coffee reception at the Inn. The day sparkled with cool bright sun flashing on still beautiful (though past peak) Vermont and New Hampshire fall foliage. Groups of credit-card-armed wives covered the grounds of Lebanon's Power House Mall, Quechee, and Woodstock, while their sturdy, hardworking husbands met to map out their 50th class reunion, June 6-8, 1997.

Reunion Chair Bob Kirsch had done all the needed homework and guided us through choices of letterhead, logo, uniform, and slogan. That done, we were inspired into a giving mode by Reunion Giving Chair FrankWeber. But we were confronted by a split loyalty problem: the Will to Excel, the Annual Fund Drive, and the class 50th gift to the College. Here there will have to be some serious definitions made.

After planning, naturally comes supper, followed this night by migration to Hanover, a march in the Dartmouth Night Parade, a rousing welcome from Mike McGean '49 and his program of athletics, and a courageous, smiling President Jim Freedman, with Sheba, our first lady. The bonfire burned brightly, flames leapt, but the tower still stood as we left for Norwich.

Saturday was a repeat cool, beautiful day. Our 8-10 a.m. annual class meeting featured our Presidential Intern, Hosea Harvey '95. He is a most impressive Chicagoan with many ideas and a world of potential.

The class picnicked on the green by the Zimmerman and Morton dorms, then off to the football game. Our seats were in the EE and FF rows, and many younger classes were seen resting on the ascent, looking for altitude markers and oxygen, as they passed our row. The game, dull for nearly three quarters, broke into a real thriller of a fourth, and ended in a 14-13 victory over Yale.

Our victory banquet at the Norwich Inn was attended by 40 of us. The names of weekend attendees appear below with any comments gleaned along the way.
