A new type of Club activity has proved most welcome this year. At our annual meeting last year Dick Gale '60 was appointed Director of Outrageous Events. Dick has the happy faculty of unearthing unusual places to see, or activities to engage in. He has turned up three events this past year, all of which have been different and have brought out club members, not otherwise seen. The first event was an overnight trip to Aetna Springs, a resort in the valley about 60 miles from San Francisco. Some thirty showed up to enjoy swimming, golf, riding, dancing, and good food. The second event took place on the slopes of Mt. Tamalpais, just over the Golden Gate Bridge. This was primarily a daytime activity, with hiking, viewing, and just loafing the order of the day. And now the third one, again an overnight affair, is a train trip from Willets to Eureka through the redwood country on a soon to be discontinued line. Dick expects at least thirty on this safari.
April 26 is the date of our annual meeting when George Colton '35, vice-president of the College will be our speaker. If you should be in San Francisco that evening call our answering service to find out where we are meeting. And as this goes to press we are anticipating having both Gregory Prince, Director of Summer Programs, and Jake Crothamel '60, our new football coach, as our guests at a luncheon to be held at the University Club. We expect to learn how the new emphasis on a full summer quarter will change the College and what the future holds for our Ivy League champs.
One of the pleasant chores of the officers of this Association is to advise in the awarding of the James Miller Scholarship Fund to a student from our area. This year it was awarded to Jim Chasey '71, well known to last fall's football opponents. Jim, with his dad, visited us at lunch just before Christmas, one week after Barry Brink'71, who played in the Shrine East-West game, was our guest.
We still have good turn-outs at our luncheons, but have not been so fortunate in having out-of-town guests recently. There was a time when each month would bring us a traveler, either on business or pleasure. In case any reader should be out this way, do plan to join us. We may be changing our luncheon location, so a call to our number in the phone book would be advisable.
