The new Jonathan Belden Daniels '86 Climbing Gym has two advantages: it stays warm in the winter, and you can't fall more than 18 feet. Opened this October, the facility was funded by the Daniels family in memory of Jonathan, who was killed by an avalanche while mountaineering in Poland. The gym, located in a converted raquetball court in the River Cluster apartments, provides easy climbs for beginners while offering experienced climbers a challenging workout. "Climbers at Dartmouth can get started in the sport all year round now," notes Luke Cudney '97, co-chair of the Mountaineering Club.
