Our 40th Reunion is only three months away—get ready now! Dick Barker sends us Chuck Myserian's definition of a '54 as he approaches this landmark: "One whose knees buckle, but whose belt doesn't." I

Dartmouth's 1993 center of campus Christmas tree was donated to the College by Dick Plummer, recently retired director of Buildings and Grounds. The tree came from the Plainfield, N.H., property of Dick's father, who planted it more than 30 years ago.

Notations on Christmas cards indicated that Skip and Lucienne Abbey, Jim and JoanAdams, Rich and Judy Lederer, Harry andCarol Robinson, Harry and Sue Rockefeller, and Tom and Kaye Tyler will be at the 40th. Kudos to Pete and Gail Barker for the"most peaceful card."

Class President Jerry Goldstein and College Trustee Dick Page hosted the 12th annual 1954 New York Holiday Luncheon in December in Jerry's executive dining room at Bear, Stearns & Cos. on Park Avenue, N.Y.C.—a most convivial, enjoyable two hours. There was a certain amount of reflection about careers, some expanding, some winding down, and some retirements. Many seemed more interested in talking about their grandchildren than their work. One new assignment elicited groans from the crowd: Tom Kelsey's retirement from Chubb & Sons was well earned, but he then accepted a new position with an insurance company in Bermuda, where he will spend about six months a year.

The class awards committee sneaked up on Dick Steinberg, who happens to be a longtime member of the committee, presenting him with the award by a unanimous vote of three—one vote by Tom Sayles and two votes by Bill White. Dick certainly deserves it for all his years of serving his community, his class, and his college.

Needless to say, President Goldstein, Reunion Chairman John Gillespie, and pub- licity maven Clark Davis exhorted us to attend the 40th. It is in the realm of possibility that 200 or more classmates will be there. Reunion Giving Chairman Dick Lewis reported increased pledges, and we should be able to reach our goal of slightly more than $1,000,000 before going on-site.

Others who enjoyed the luncheon were Bob Adnopoz, Dick Barker, Pete Barker, Don Berlin, Bob Berry, Lo-Yi Chan, JackChristy, Bruce Classon, Bob Clements,John Cunningham, Dick Davidoff, DaveDyche, Pete Gutlon, Tom Harrington,John Heston, Dave Levine, Bob Levine,Dave Mandelbaum, Dick Pearl, HughRoberts, Harry Robinson, and Bob Vorsanger.

At the luncheon we all signed a congratulatory good-luck card to Norm Veasey regarding his important involvement in the Paramount Pictures Corporation bidding war as chief justice of the Supreme Court of Delaware. Norm promptly sent a thank-you note to Jerry Goldstein for distribution to the luncheon attendees, which I think should be shared with all: "What a treasured and historic document which you sent me! Many, many thanks for this moving and flattering testimonial and the other lovely communications I have received from some of you individually. It's great to have such distinguished cheerleaders' for all this hard work. Suzy and I are looking forward to being with you all at our 40th Reunion (has it really been that long?)."
