In search of news, as always, I called Jerry Sass the other day to find out what was happening in California besides earthquakes and other natural disasters. He had just returned from the hospital, where he had had a pacemaker installed, and was preparing to take off for Hawaii, pacemaker and all. His wife, Rachel, a doctor (a handy thing to have in one's family, particularly at our age), was due to attend a USC medical symposium at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. He said he planned to use the time there to write up the second Campaigner on the 65th Reunion and said he would call me from there in a few days. He was as good as his word, reporting that they had arrived without incident, and he was feeling well and resting a lot. He said he was making progress with the Campaigner and that he planned to attend Class Officers Weekend in Hanover, at which time we would have a separate meeting of our own officers. He apparently plans to give his new pacemaker a good test. He also mentioned that LauraSadler had won the prize for naming the most people in the 65th Reunion picture, with Red Sandborn a close second. He has received numerous notes from classmates since the reunion, many requesting copies of Irv Engleman's remarks at the memorial service. Irv has promised to transcribe his notes but has not yet delivered. When he does, Jerry will fill all requests.
I regret to report the deaths of TopperRobinson on December 25, Jim Sullivan on January 22, and Jack Kenerson on January 9.
