Idled because I was away from home, I was casually thumbing through the Education Life section of the Sunday New York Times when an ad for Wellesley College awakened me. In black letters it said "GO BACK TO YOUR FUTURE," followed by "The ElisabethKaiser Davis Degree Program." Yes, we know her. We call her husband Pete because his name is Stan, and, during the good old days when we had fall reunions, they were part of the Bema Lunch Bunch.
Cupid strikes 1930 again, this time in that little hot bed of 1930 alums and romance around the Gulf. Writing this in November, when it's only a rumor, I'm not free to name Cupid's target, but by February, when this appears, you'll probably all know that she's someone once associated with Wally Blake, and he's rumored to be ex-FBI and a Big Ten footballer.
Also by February you should know that beginning March 19, 1995, when you phone me with all your news, my area code will be 520, though old 602 will get through until July 23. The Phoenix area will keep 602, but the rest of fast-growing Arizona will switch.
This really should be in the "Give a Rouse" column, but I take pleasure in reporting that Milt McInnes has been honored by elevation to the Railroad Hall of Fame, which has Cooperstown, N.Y., as its home, same as the Baseball Hall of Fame. Not surprising for a lifetime railroader and ex-president of the Erie-Lackawanna railroad system. No cash, as with the Nobel Prize, but the honor is evidenced by a section of RR rail, plated and suitably engraved. Both Milt and Blanche sound great and are planning on the reunion.
Classmates who travel eventually get together. Leaving July 22, after the reunion, of course, your not-so-humble secretary and sparring partner Betty Rex will be cruising out of Australia, joining Chuck and BobbieJacobs. Destination: New Guinea, where, you recall, Nels Rockefeller's son Michael vanished in 1961. It's my sixth cruise on the Pearl, Betty's fourth, and the 100th, maybe, for the Jacobs.
Stay alive, y'all.
