45 Some months ago, The New York Times announced that VincentCanby was named the paper's chief theater critic, having retired as its chief film critic. Full (dress) circle for Vince. Yes, he's a classmate.
Good news from Down East. Don Cole enclosed a clipping from The Portland Press Herald: John A. MacDonald, retired former owner of Yarmouth Boat Yard, was awarded the Francis L. Pierce Award for his contributions to the state's marine industry at the Maine Marine Trade Association convention in Portland. John is a former president of the association and has been cited for his work on various marine issues. (Francis L. Pierce was the founder and first president of the association.)
"About ten years ago," writes Herb Sandberg, "we moved to New Hampshire. I'm working at Kolsman in Merrimack as European Avionics marketing manager. The job requires a bit of traveling but is interesting. Francoise, my better half, runs the computer for a local firm. Our three kids have all flown the coop. Juliette, the oldest, just got married and is in Seattle. Stan is working for a magazine in New York, and our youngest is finishing her senior year at Keene State. I hope to get to our 50th; I seem to have missed all the others."
From Canandaigua, N.Y., Hank Dutcher writes: "Hope to be at the 50th with my wife, Luciana. We had a great time at the 50th V-12 reunion. I am still practicing law but spend less time doing so and more time enjoying our ranch in the mountains, our friends, our trips, and the good life. Usually attend the Cornell-Dartmouth games at Ithaca." (The Big Green appreciates your cheers from the stands at any "away" game, I'm sure.) In the election last November, Democrat Bob Lee campaigned on his 40 years of financial and management experience to serve Fairfield County, Conn., as a state representative in the General Assembly. Besides putting forth plans for economic growth in the region, he also vowed to fight crime—there is a house burglary or car theft every ten hours. Sounded good to me, but he didn't make it. He was buried by the Republican wave; wrong place at the wrong time.
Here in Greensboro, N.C., we lost one of our classmates to New Hampshire. JohnGooding—his elbow now in good condition, but still having trouble with that long putterhas relocated to 108 Main Street, New Castle, NH 03854. The granite state was where he was born, after all. From reports I've received, he's fitting right in with the '45 group in the Portsmouth/Exeter area.
This is my last Class Notes column. Anew class secretary will be elected in June to carry on. Please give him your help and cooperation. You should know that a lot of the news for this column has been generated by FrankAldrich, communicator non-pareil. Couldn't have done it without him.

We were saddened to learn that Moose Rowansuccumbed to cancer on April 18, shortly after subwitting the above column. Our thoughts go outto his wife, Joan. Ed.
