89 Although news was sparse this month, I am glad to report that even during the winter '89s were making life plans and embarking interesting career paths. At risk of waxing philosophical, the late twenties are a curious and rich time. I received an elegant wedding announcement from ChrisBaldwin. He was married in December in Madrid to Rosario Gayarre y Lopez de Tejada. Best wishes, Chris! Any guesses on whether they're planning on hyphenating?
Rick Spalding graduated a year ago with a degree from the Cornell Hotel Management School and has opened a "fine-dining" steak restaurant in Wilmington, Del. Rich sent me the name and address for carnivorous friends in D.C. Laura Bedford has returned from her four-year sojourn in Paris and is now living in the Bay Area working in real-estate development and finance. Rick Furman is in his second year of residency at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and will soon be moving to New York Hospital to work in his subspecialty in hematology and oncology (that's blood and cancer to us lay people). Mary Beth Basile is practicing law at the firm of Burns and Levinson in Boston.
Sandy Guylay, in her second year at Yale Law School, is off to Hong Kong this summer to work for Walt Disney. Katie Beierle, after walking the earth and partaking in entrepreneurial business ventures, is settling down and getting married to a man she met in Seattle. Word has it that Andy Poltrak, an officer in the navy, works at the Pentagon and is engaged to be married to a fellow lieutenant this summer. Cheers to workplace romance! Tara Sweeney is at Manhattan Eye and Ear as an ophthalmology resident. Christine Whelan is working in Hawaii as a journalist.
Jen Large, a recent graduate of Architecture School in Colorado, is working at an architectural firm in New York. Jen Block has recently moved to Atlanta and is working at the law firm of Alston and Bird. Any other '89s in Atlanta? Send word! Other news is that Kathy Ireland, a denizen of Menlo Park, Calif., works for Digital and recently completed the requirements at Stanford for her master's degree in the computer field. Finally, NYU M.B.A. Chris Drew has been promoted to manager of market analysis at Burnham Corp., where he has been working since 1988.
I hope you are starting off an enjoyable summer and that you have spare time to write off a PABA-stained letter about your experiences as we all hurtle and careen toward 30. Curious as always,
