A fresh, spring column tinged with subtle Reunion messages, to gently prompt those of you haven't sent in your reply card or made travel arrangements to Get Off Your Tardy Arses and Do So! Sorry, I didn't want to have to get rough with you, but this isn't some mini-reunion or Homecoming tailgate we're talking about. This is the Real Deal, the Big Enchilada, the Be-There-Or- Be-Square, All-Talking, All-Singing, All- Dancing non-stop event-of-a-lifetime 10th (11th?) Reunion Extravaganza. Just Do It. Okay, enough said...on to subtler ploys...
Nancy Kopans sent one of tie loveliest notes I have ever received from a classmate. I don't mean the words were especially lovely, but in the margins she drew these sweet little colorful cartoons illustrating recent events in her life. For example, Nancy married T. Michael Johnson (BC '88, Michigan Law '91) last year, and she drew this cute picture of her smiling self in a wedding dress with flowers and hubby in his tux, holding hands with the Berkshire mountains in the background. I wish I could reproduce it here. Nancy is currently a lawyer at Cahill Gordon Reindel in NYC, and a member of the environmental law committee of the bar, among other charitable activities. (Appropriately, there is a lovely sketch of a tree next to this paragraph.) Nancy reports that her spare time is spent running in Central Park (I hope you run fast Nancy), biking up the Hudson, and seeing opera at the Met (this is perhaps the best picture of all...it's the back of Nancy's head as she sits in the audience at the Met. A little stick figure is singing on stage and waving his/her arms. There's a little arrow pointing to the back of Nancy's head which says "me." (Nancy, draw me a sketch of you in front of Baker Tower and I'll get it in the magazine. Deal?)
According to the Sunday Eagle-Tribune from Lawrence, Mass., Scott Kehoe recently engaged himself to Betsy Rose Alter. (Taking Alter to the Altar—that has a ring to it, don't you think?) Betsy is a lawyer and is either in private practice or else works for her mother, since the name of her firm is listed as the law offices of Betsy R. Alter of Groton. The announcement states that Scott has an M.B.A. from Kellogg, but lists no current employer, which we hope is an oversight. (However, Scott, if you are still looking for employment come June, I can't think of a better place to network than Reunion. Throw a pine cone and you're likely to hit another M.B.A. If you are employed by then, perhaps you can help me find a job?)
Continuing our tour of the bastions of journalism, The Niagara Gazette recently noted that Scott Stevens has left Harvard, where he was a teaching fellow and lecturer in English, history, and literature. Scott is moving to Arizona State, where he will be an assistant professor of English literature while completing a book on Native-American identity and self-representation in colonial and post-colonial America. Scott, we couldn't be happier that you left Harvard. They wouldn't know good teaching if it ran them down while crossing Commonwealth Avenue. Perhaps at Reunion you can regale us with tales of how you survived your years in enemy territory.
According to the New Era Daily of Lancaster, Pa., Dr. Mark Perezous completed his internship in orthopedics at Temple University School of Medicine and a fellowship in sports medicine at Hopkins Center for Reconstructive Surgery, and has joined the Lancaster Orthopedic Group in Pennsylvania. So, if anyone is injured in the 10K run at Reunion, hobble on over to Dr. Mark. He'll tape you up good so you can still dance late into the evening. Okay, okay, you get the point. Mark's up next month. See you in Hanover in June. I'll be the one with carpal tunnel syndrome.
