Lon Cross wrote in to let us know about some interesting changes in his life. "As you know, I have been in the army since graduation. After more than 20 years of service, I am retiring as a lieutenant colonel. I count myself pretty lucky. I am still very healthy, despite spending more than half of my career as a paratrooper, and I have a great family: Wilma (we've been married 13 years), Bud 7, and Elizabeth Anne 4-1/2.1 had plenty of opportunities to travel. Additionally, the army sent me to Wharton for an M.B. A. on my way to teach economics at West Point.
"My family and I are now living very happily about three miles from the Mexican border in Laredo, Tx. (It seems that I never end up where there are any fellow Big Greeners). I am now the general manager for Wal-Mart's export distribution center. In this capacity, I manage the processing of all of Wal-Mart's exports into Mexico. I love the job; it entails problem-solving on a grand scale (international logistics at its best), plus I spend most of my day switching back and forth between English and Spanish.
"I hope, with this change in careers, I will have more success scheduling time off for class reunions. My plans to attend our 20th Reunion got preempted by the events in Rwanda, Bosnia, and Haiti. I didn't end up going anywhere exciting; however, I still had to stay close to home in the event an emergency deployment was required."
I also heard from Ted Stone, who wrote to announce a recent career move, in order to stay in touch with classmates. "I am delighted to report that I am joining Thomson Corp. Publishing International in Stamford, Conn., as vice president, finance. TCPI is a specialty publishing company that provides information products, services, and media reference books, directories, and magazines delivered on paper, computer disks or online to a variety of focused markets around the world. Although revenues in 1995 will exceed $2 billion, TCPI is comprised of many small, free-standing business units, each dedicated to one niche market and often with entrepreneurial roots. One of the chief management challenges at TCPI is to bring the disciplined strategic thinking and scale economies of a major corporation to each of these businesses without attenuating their enterprising spirit. As you might imagine, I'm looking forward to helping meet that challenge."

In his new role as artistic director for the Cleveland Play House, Peter Hackett has chosen The Grapes of Wrath as his first production. In the future, Peter plans to stage a broad range of works including classics, new plays, musicals, and children's shows. He also hopes to develop a recognizable Play House style by encouraging a group of associate artists to return for at least one project a year, and by strengthening Play House ties to the Ohio community. He will do this by establishing a local Playwrights Unit that encourages Ohio writers to write new plays for fully staged Play House premieres, and by using a large proportion of local (rather than New York) actors. Actor Joel Grey is one of the Play House's more famous alumni.
