The big news is that 1955 is the winner of the year's Class of the Year Award, presented with suitable ceremony by Dartmouth's director of alumni relations, Nelson Armstrong, in Hanover on May 3 at the Annual Class Officer's Weekend Banquet. The signal achievements that earned us this prestigious honor, and the classmates responsible, included:

(1) Setting a new giving record. Achieved through the efforts of Reunion giving chairman Joe Mathewson and head agent Brooks Parker, kicked off with a generous starting gift by Gordie Russell.

(2) Tying a Reunion record. All due to the smooth organization and unrelenting efforts of our indefatigable Reunion chairman, John French.

(3) Writing, editing, and producing a fine class newsletter. The credit for such a welcome and imaginative publication goes also to the multi-talented John French.

(4) Creating outstanding class projects. Here the honors are shared by several especially hard-working members of the class: Peter Thompson for our fine gift program to the Hood Museum and Dartmouth athletics; Pete Buhler, BruceAlexander, and Mike Gordon for the scholarship project that has aided the children of our deceased members; and TomByrne, who so painstakingly and so well put together the chronicle of our College years that we so enjoyed at last year's Reunion.

And all of the above under the inspired leadership of Bob Fanger, our class president for the past five years. Congratulations all around!

In other news this month:

(1) "Be flexible, adapt. Find your niche. Be imaginative, innovate." So urges JimWechsler, executive director of the Greater Lebanon Chamber of Commerce, in an upbeat business journal interview on the economic prospects for the Upper Valley of New Hampshire-Vermont. And, Jim also warns, in advice that pertains to all corners of the land, "success in 1996 will come to the businesses that can adapt to an ever-changing and sometimes fickle consumer environment."

(2) A very welcome card from (Jus Aberle reports the following landmark events: "September 1995—closed Rauston's London office, moved to Cleveland; October 1995—grandson, Drew Carey, born; February 1996—joined McDonald's Securities in Cleveland as S.V.P. planned marriage canceled, still 'available.'" (Since this was on February 15, one wonders if any offers come in on Sadie Hawkins Day!)

(3) Stan Barr '44 kindly writes to inform me that his adversary in doubles squash, Les Spelke of West Newton, Mass., has been elected chairman of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, an honor richly deserved for the many hours he has devoted to this worthy cause.
