I think Peter Jolicoeur is looking to write the monthly columns..."Dear Adrienne, Greetings, and nice job with the Class Notes to date. It's hard to believe it's already been a year since graduation! In any case, I wanted to pass word along of yet another Dartmouth mini-reunion that took place in Anchorage, Alaska, with John Jones, ScottMeacham, Brian Eyster, Connie Tromble, and myself. We all met up in Anchorage at the famed Mexico in Alaska restaurant on Memorial Day weekend, after Brian and Connie returned from Denali National Park where they were backcountry camping for a week and reportedly had a closeencounter of the grizzly kind. Here's the skinny on everyone:
"John Jones and I are living together in Arlington, Va., where John completed (phew!) his first year of med school at George Washington University. (I think he's suffering from library withdrawal.) After completing an internship with National Geographic's Traveler Magazine in January, I was hired on staff and continue to work there. Among other projects, I am assisting with map research for an historical travel guide to the United States. Scott Meacham has been living in Anchorage for the last year, but is coming to Virginia this weekend (June 9) to start a two year master's program in architectural history at the University of Virginia. He will join Jennifer Lasky in the program.
"Brian Eyster completed a year in his doctorate program at Indiana in cognitive science. He will be in Hanover this summer playing at the Lone Pine Tavern with ErikVaveris.
Connie Tromble has been in Bethel, Alaska, for the last year working as a women's resource councilor, helping battered women in the region. If you don't know, Bethel is far out in the isolated wilderness of Alaska, but Connie has decided to continue her work and plans to spend another year there. While in Nome, Alaska, Connie ran into Mattie Larson, who is working there in the public service of her hometown.
"In other local Virginia news: AlisonCook and Heather Koop just moved into our building in Arlington. They are both working 'on the Hill' in Washington, while finding time to go country line dancing and bake lots of brownies.
"Yep, that's a lot of news, but I hope you can use some of it in your column! Peter." Well, Peter! Anytime you want to take over, just say the word!
Here's what other folks who weren't privileged enough to make Peter's personal column are doing: Enrico Riley, ZackFinch, Dave McHale, Brian Wall, and Brian Hone members of the Ed Riley Trio have been playing gigs around New England. If you missed a performance, order their album, Leaves and Traces, by calling (802) 649-8297 or write the Ed Riley Trio, P.O. Box 219, Norwich, VT 05055.
Haskins Hobson, who graduated with a B.E.in environmental engineering from Dartmouth, will be working as a ranger at Philmont Scout Ranch for a couple of months until a "real" engineering job comes his way.
Louis Tucker is still aiming for the navy SEALs. In the meantime, he's working for a start up network marketing company called Ameristar that is marketing Echo Star's new 18 inch satellite dish for home entertainment systems. If you're interested in sales, marketing, satellite retail centers, or telemarketing, contact Louis at (603) 643-4020. Sounds like a great opportunity!
But Charles Kim will probably skip the offer since he's attending Baylor Medical College in Houston. Prior to med school, Charles spent seven weeks in Cameroon, Africa, working with Wycliffe Bible Translators.
Don't forget to write! Don't be bashful! Feel free to brag and boast (if not about yourself then at least about your friends)!
