Sure hope by the time you read this in the March issue, the worst winter in our history is well behind us and we can all come out of the deep freeze. Yes, even our coveted hideaway here in Florida was pretty darned cold. Anyway, spring is practically here!!!

A news release from the Wiremold Company tells us that John Murphy, president since 1955, became chairman of the board and chief executive officer, and his brother Robert '36 became president. Their father founded the company in 1900. Sounds like you have done a great job, John - best of luck and hope you can take it a bit easier now.

Bill Adams wrote a great letter from San Diego. He and his wife moved there in 1946 and love it. They travel to Mexico some, but mainly to Hawaii. Bill still writes a house organ for Kelco Company and free lances some. He said, "Bill Knibbs (married to Bill Adams' cousin, Lila) just installed electricity in his Baja, Cal., retirement home in time for a 100 per cent increase in electrical rates! You just can't win 'em all." Thanks, Bill, and write again.

I had a call from Al Jacobson just before we came down in January with the sad news about Rollie Morton's sudden death while visiting his farm in Newfane, Vt. The New York Times of January 14 carries a complete story on Rollie, but, of course, no article could possibly cover all the wonderful things he did for his family, his College, and his community. Jake went to the memorial services and said about a dozen '34's and their wives attended. I'm sure Bill Scherman will cover this in detail in his newsletter. Our class extends its sympathy to Dorothy and their three boys.

Bob Smith was honored with a degree from Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (Anesthesia) in 1975 and also was awarded a Professorship at Howard Medical School after "only 30 years at that institution, showing that if you live long enough there's no telling how much you can get." Obviously, Bob, you should have gotten the professorship much earlier, but better late than never. Congratulations to you.

Frank Parmalee Jr. writes from Toledo that his office is in Sam Carson's bank and they both keep plugging along. I wonder how hard you are plugging, Frank, when I see that Art Moebius writes of your "enlarged Nantucket hideaway. Great spot - no one between him and England at his location."

Charley Strauss writes that while he is currently working in NYC he hopes to retire to Hanover before long. They also have a little casa in Portugal which they will retain following retirement.

Stan Smoyer says he's having a ball in retirement. He and Barbara saw Bill Cummings in Bethlehem, Pa., last summer, and he says Bill is making progress recovering from his stroke. Encouraging to Stan was the fact that Bill was "enjoying his Bourbon and using some pretty colorful language." Good luck, Bill, and thanks, Stan.

Chuck Sutton has just retired from Johns Manville after 33 years and has joined the "3-G Club" - golf, gardening, and guzzling. Said he's not so good at any, but keeps trying. Good for you, Chuck.

Ed Thomas wrote that he "finally retired perforce. Major surgery in '69, '72, and '76, each requiring about three months for recuperation, made this imperative. Now have 12-plus grandchildren - it helps to have daughters." You probably deserve the award for most grandchildren, Ed. Good luck in your retirement.

Jack Tobin is still going strong in pediatrics in Minneapolis, but he is giving thought to retiring to Rhode Island and figures then he can get to Hanover more often.

Nick Xanthaky retired from college teaching after 33 years. Alice says he's busier than ever now, having been elected treasurer of New England Natural Foods Associates. They hid a trip to Greece in September - "one of the Dest months to visit, since the weather is mild." they covered many of the sights, and he saw most of his relatives who wanted to know what he looked like. They probably agreed you art as handsome as ever, Nick!! Bet it was fun for loth of you.

I'll have some address changes for next issue, and unless Ed Brown sends me some more goodies and you guys write me, that will be about all I'll have, so get going.
