Instead of clearing out my electronic mailbox, I pored through the numerous press articles about and letters from classmates for this month's column. At the top of my stack is news about Ezra Aloysius Falconer Ross, the eight-month-old son of Kathryn (Harty) Ross. Kathryn shared even more good news—Jon Ruel and Yasi Ayat are engaged.
Laura Winkler wrote that she met her fiance, Pete Roth (Duke '90, Duke Law '93), while working at Paul, Hastings, a law firm in LA. She quit her job as a paralegal to attend Loyola Law School, where she ran into classmate Jen LeRoy. Even though they are in different sections, Laura sees a lot of Jen, who is full of updates about Jeff Risher at UCLA Law.
Another person attending law school is Kevin Fleming. Actually, according to Nicole Palczer and Alicia Abell , Kevin is going to Northwestern Law and Kellogg. Nicole still works for Andersen Consulting but has moved to Chicago, and Alicia is on the editorial staff at Washingtonian magazine. She left University of Virginia Law to work on the website, Washingtonian Online. Nicole and Alicia wrote in about Giano Cromley, a speech writer for Senator Max Baucus from Montana, and Bevin Jackson, back from a four-month case in Paris for Corporate Decisions Inc.
Rather than venture to Europe for work, Enrico Riley traveled to study Renaissance painting. He received the Schoilkopf Prize, a $5,700 award for the top freshman painter at the Yale graduate painting program. Perhaps one day Brice Brown or Lara (Phelps) Randby will be acquiring and selling Enrico's work. Brice relocated to New York City from Baltimore, Md., to pursue a career in painting and the selling of fine art and antiques. He established a gallery/studio called The Orange Chicken. And Lara is the gallery director for Stephen Huneck Gallery in Santa Fe, N.M. Lara is eager for visitors and encourages everyone to swing by Water Street.
Rebecca Slisz might be anxious for visitors as well in Thailand, where she teaches English for World Teach, a private, nonprofit organization at Harvard. Although I'm not sure what her future plans include, I would bet Rebecca won't be following in Scott Walker's footsteps. Scott coaches football for Lakeview High School in Michigan.
Now for the craziest bit of news: Todd Senecker sent a postcard from Boston after playing bongos for Miami Sound Machine for eight months. Since his Boston visit with Todd Mac Lean, Seneker moved to Atlanta, where I suppose he teamed up with REM as the drummer. Anyway, Seneker is looking for a mean game of pong with any relocated Dartmouth folk to prove that he's still "the champ."
