If you're reading this soon after this DAM issue arrived in your mailbox, there's still time to make this fall's mini-reunion, on October 31-November 2 in Hanover. On the docket are a Friday party with the classes of '48 and '49, Homecoming/Dartmouth Night, tailgating and Harvard football on Saturday, cocktails and dinner at Dowds' Country Inn in Lyme, and Sunday breakfast at Judy and Bill Cross' in Orford. Give it a whirl; it's better than raking leaves. Call Len Matless at (603) 643-5391.

And speaking of mini-reunions, Bob Mcllwain called to let me know that one is definitely on for this winter in Florida. You should have received a notice of it in the mail. It's to be on Friday, January 23, to Monday, January 26, at the Indian River Plantation/Marriott Resort in Stuart (45 minutes north of Palm Beach). Plans are shaping up for a welcome party on Friday, a cocktail and dinner cruise on Saturday, a class dinner on Sunday, a tie in with the allclasses Dartmouth Jamboree at nearby Harbor Ridge on Monday, and golf, tennis, fishing, swimming, shopping, and good fellowship in between. Other planners include Joel Leavitt, Skip Sutton, Neil McCulloch, Tom Ruggles, Nev Chamberlain, and Frank Harrington. If you haven't yet, please return the reply card he mailed or call Bob Mcllwain at (908) 766-1509 if you want more information. It's an opportunity to stay at a top-notch Florida resort at a very special low rate.

In care you haven't read it elsewhere, the class again bettered its goal in last year's Alumni Fund drive, raising $176,900 for the College. Note the interesting "1769," Dartmouth's founding date. That's another record for the 47th-year-out class and your participation was 70 percent, well above the College average. Special kudos are due Bob Mcllwain, class head agent, as well as the many classmates who worked diligently making phone calls, writing notes, and otherwise contributing to the effort. And, of course, all you givers. Thanks, guys!

The summer of 1997 has been good to me. So far, it's included a get-together with members of my Bronxville High School class; a memorable trip through Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming with my three sons, including a stay at a fishing ranch; and a great homecoming to a large 70th birthday celebration with family and old friends. Give me some grist for next month's DAM mill.
