Every year all class presidents are asked to submit to the College reports of the activities of their class. The following is a brief summary of the report submitted by Bud Gleason for the year ending last June. In October 2003 there was an executive meeting of 20 classmates to review committee activities to work on short- and long-range planning. In February we had a similar meeting with about 15 classmates attending. In June during the mini-reunion in Chicago we had a special class executive committee meeting at which we voted to plant a tree on the campus dedicated to Bill Carpenter in recognition of all the contributions he had made to the class; the tree to be located near the one dedicated to his father. Several of the class newsletters,5ifty, were written by Joe Medlicott. Six issues of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine with the class of 1950 columns were published. David Taylor has compiled a list of many of the class members e-mail addresses. The list, though not complete, is used to support class activities. It has been very effective in assisting the class outreach program. (Note: Please send your e-mail address to David at davidjtaylor@valley.net.) Several class projects continue. We are in the process of assisting the class of 2000 in taking over the tree-planting project on campus. Another ongoing project is to help support an intern at the Collis Center. A third program is our support of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding. Other projects are the Dartmouth Athletic Endowment Fund, the Dartmouth Class of 1950 Awards and the outreach program. Under the leadership of Gordie Hood the class goal for the Alumni Fund was $175,000, with 65 percent participation. As of June we had raised $141,769 with 61 percent participation. Longterm goals of the class are as follows: 1) continue to reinforce the momentum and class cohesiveness of the 50th reunion with minireunions held in Hanover and at alternative sites similar to the highly successful events in Florida, California and Chicago; 2) exceed our Dartmouth Fund goals each year; 3) continue to support our class programs financially and monitor and update programs to meet the current needs of Dartmouth and the class; 4) keep the class financially sound and able to fund all needed programs; and 5) support our class newsletter so that it will continue to be a catalyst for pulling our far-flung class together.
A final word: There is still time for you to make the October mini-reunion. It will be a good warm-up for the 55 th coming up in June.
