The March issue of this magazine will be a special issue devoted to athletes and athletics at Dartmouth. We need to hear from any of you with special memories of participation in or observations of the athletic program during our time in Hanover. We also are interested in any athletic achievements attained since graduationmarathons, road races, golf and tennis matches of note. Favorite stories about coaches and teammates are wanted, about stars and scrubs. One of my favorite memories is an October afternoon football game in Yale Bowl during sophomore year when a winless Big Green upset undefeated Yale 35-0. An incredulous New York Times reported the next day that "Beagle threw for four touchdowns and McKenna threw a fifth." Of such stuff are legends made. Please call or write with your thoughts by October 30—we have an early deadline to meet.

Doug Keare reports from Christmas Cove, Maine, "where Ginger and I attended the wedding of Kim Spaulding '86. Kim is Line and Robin's middle child and a classmate of our son Doug. Also at the wedding of Afferbeck Lauder were Billand Judy Allen, Len Clark, Pete '55 and Sue Gulick (Sue is Line's sister), Ted andBetsy Rowe, and Bill Sherman and fiancee. The wedding was splendiferous and afforded attendees the opportunity to explore Christmas Cove and environs. The following morning a flotilla of small boats toured the peninsula and its many islands, culminating in a rafting for a picnic lunch in the Damariscotta River. This latter feat is earning Line his new Christmas Cove nickname "Le Planificateur."

Doug and Roger Schumacher report that the China trip is ON—probably in September 1998, 19 or 20 days in the best accommodations seeing all the sights of China (itinerary next month). Costs will be reasonable, meals will be good, and there will probably be enough '56ers to merit their own bus! So far the following have expressed more than casual interest: Peterson, Devorsetz, Cole, Keare,Periere, French, Miles, Higgs, Clowes,Schattman, Wheeler, Leibman, Katz, and Rosenwald Squared. Watch this space for more on this grand opportunity to see China in the company of other worthies of the Great Class of '56.
