Each winter for the past 20 Dartmouth exports a day's worth of cultural or educational relief to the campus of Princeton University. Continuing education is wrapped in a painless pill and enhanced by a delicious luncheon served at the University's Faculty Club. It was a fun way to pass a dreary winter day and became even more so when Bruce and WilhelminaEaken joined Nancy and me for lunch. Among the momentous topics discussed at the table was our 30th Reunion, which the Eakens hope to attend —if childsitting can be arranged. Alas, not all of us enjoy the bliss of an empty nest!
When I asked Dick Ossen the same question, I learned that even empty nests can clutter parental plans. It seems that when Dick married Pat last fall he inherited four stepsons, plus his two all 21 or older. Imagine the odds that two of the six would choose to get married on the weekend prior to his 30th reunion. Not only that but Dick and Pat will have to leave the Saturday wedding early to host the rehearsal dinner for Sunday's nuptials. From here, it looks like Dick's considerable talents as an outplacement counselor didn't get the ducks in a row. Maybe that's why Dick is still working out and running so regularly. Whatever the travail, Dick promises to find the keg at our tent.
Dwight Beebe is currently vice president of finance at Ashtabula County Medical Center in Ohio. Somehow his Dartmouth and Tuck degrees aren't sufficient to master the debits and credits of this 226-bed facility. Thus, Dwight has embarked on a fascinating pursuit of a master's in health administration. Quarterly, he spends an intensive week at Ohio State with lots of homework in between sessions. If he appears bleary-eyed at reunion, it's because he was in the barrel the week before.
Several years ago, Lyn Carlin was asked to evaluate the real estate portfolio of a New Jersey savings and loan association. Apparently he did his job well, because now he has a steady stream of sick S&Ls from around the country seeking out his "workout" expertise. Anybody interested in purchasing a campground in Arkansas? Lyn is also spearheading a drive to get recalcitrant SAEs to reunite in June. Come on guys, if you won't buy a shopping center or apartment building, at least make the trip back to Hanover.
Harvey Duchin recently elected to move his ob-gyn practice from the champagne circuit of Main Line Philadelphia to relocate on the shores of Lake Champlain, N.Y., specifically #2 Bluff Point, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Harvey has joined practice with BobVirostek who, long ago, mastered the art of keeping both a warm heart and warm hands in his North Country medical pursuits. No babies will be born in Plattsburgh during our reunion; Harvey and Bob will be in Hanover.
Finally, a testimonial from Bill Jerome, who is still practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery in Petoskey, Mich., when he isn't scuba diving. "Bravo! Sensational! Your book Underwater Paradise is absolutely outstanding . . . The photographs are stunning and the information you provide regarding the various dive sites will be very helpful when we visit those areas ... I have been diving for about 15 years and have visited several of the places you talk about [and] would love to dive with you sometime if the opportunity ever arises. I plan to make your book a gift for several of my friends." For a review like that, Bill, how about Indonesia in 1991?
