DEAR AGELESS VOX,
I always told friends! thought Dartmouth was old (1769), till I was told that Dartmouth's founder wasa Yale graduate. So many classmates at reunion last summer expressed surprise at the observation. I thought I'd better check. Is it true or not?
DEAR JOE, It's so.
Eleazar Wheelock graduated with high honors from Yale in 1733. Yale's president James Angell "reminded" Dartmouth's loyal sons of this fact at the 1934 celebration of Dartmouth Night. (I guess you weren't there.) In fact everyone in Dartmouth's first graduating class—Levi Frisbie, Sylvanus Ripley, Samuel Gray, and John Wheelock—had transferred out of Yale.
Boola Boola.
