Joel Lasky reports from Dallas that he had successful heart surgery last October to replace a malfunctioning valve.
Joel has had three different careers: (1) various involvements in local and network T.V. broadcasting, (2) writing industrial films and business theater for major domestic and foreign corporations, and, presently, (3) managing the graphics and video department of a global telecommunications cations company. Since graduation, Joel has served on active duty as a U.S.A.F. intelligence officer, earned a law degree, directed live theater, hosted a radio talk show, and has written books, the latest an adventure story that deals with reincarnation.
Tom Hall is now preaching at two small country churches in Rhode Island after 35 years of teaching English. He is still playing at square dances in western Rhode Island and eastern Connecticut. (How about leading us at the 1997 Homecoming in the Mullins Barn?) He reminisced about the D.C.U.'s "Hanover Hoedowners" and how in December 1954 he "shanghaied" Jaime Pradilla into playing the washtub bass.
The Medaille College board of trustees announced the reappointment of Kevin Sullivan as the college's president for a fourth three-year term. In making the announcement, the chair said, "Under his leadership, the college has dramatically increased its visibility in the community and progressed significantly in all aspects of its operation.... His steady, team oriented approach to leadership has served the college well." (We knew all that over 40 years ago).
The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development has published a study by Jon Moore, "The U.N. and Complex Emergencies—Rehabilitation in Third World Transitions." The study focuses on U.N. and donor performance in providing rehabilitation assistance to Afghanistan, Cambodia, Mozambique, and Somalia.
Jon has recently been a senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and a Fellow at the Center for Naval Analysis. He was a member of the Consultative Group of International Experts of the international committee of the Red Cross from 1992-95, and is currently a senior adviser to the administrator of the U.N. development program and associate at the Shorenstein Center for the Press, Politics, and Public Policy at Harvard.
