Ahhh, the total freedom to write anything about anyone! Complete, unadulterated, unconstrained license to create a story, an image about any of our classmates. Can you tell I've got no material? But wait, thank goodness for Scott McDonald's fine communique. Lest we think Scott was being altruistic by bailing me out, his missive was, in fact, totally, yet understandably, self-serving. Scott reports that he and wife Susan Ford are the proud parents of Liam Aengus Ford McDonald, a lad born 12/8/96, weighing 8 lb. 20z., and measuring 20.5 inches. Great news Scott!
New Dad Scott is the CFO of a fourcompany group related mainly to the corrugated display and packaging industry. While not parenting and playing with boxes, Scott keeps busy playing his bagpipes, drinking his Guinness, and giving his golden retrievers difficult-to-pronounce names like Bridie and Ceilidh, which are Celtic for meat pie and party, respectively. Perhaps Scott has been asked to be on the Dartmouth committee to generate new mascot names.
Thanks to Scott for news on Dave Etz, who has relocated to Miami with a company called HMS Partners. Though not confirmed, I believe HMS stands for Hear Madonna Sing! In case the intense humor of that last comment has not yet sunk in, please note that Madonna lives in Miami.
Hey wait, here's a copy of an e-mail from Aaron Hill. Aaron joyfully writes about his recent engagement to Susan Fales (Harvard '84), which occurred in conjunction with his parents' 40th wedding anniversary. Hey Aaron, nothing like stealing the attention from your folks! While Aaron continues his work at Dillon, Read & Co. in New York, Susan is at Warner Bros, in L.A., where for the past 11 years she's been involved in writing and producing sitcoms such as The Cosby Show, ADifferent World, Sudde?ily Susan (tremendous time slot), and, of course, everyone's favorite, The Kirk Cameron Show. Aaron and Susan are planning a May 1997 marriage in New York City. Good show!
Thanks also to Aaron for news about Eric Kearney, still in Cincinnati working in the law offices of Cohen, Todd, Kite & Stanford and, in his spare time, building a newspaper empire with his wife, JanMichele Lemon '76. Eric and Jan-Michele own and publish NIP Magazine and just purchased The Cincinnati Herald and The Cincinnati BlackBook. Additionally, they were recently profiled in an article about rising entrepreneurs, not to mention just being named in this fine column.
I Was dismayed to see several publications highlighting Dartmouth Olympians omit our very own Dana Chladek. All Dana did was win a silver medal in whitewater kayaking, which I'm sure she attributes to the inspirational talks we had on several car trips to and from Detroit. Either that or 20 years of intense training and dedication to her sport. Some of you may have seen the television coverage of Dana's races and recall that she also won a bronze medal in 1992. Speaking of Olympic boats, let's not forget Dru vanHengel, who competed in both the oneperson and four-person women's canoekayak events. No word on whether Dana or Dru enjoyed intramural innertube water polo at school.
Other tidbits and fun facts: LucyHarvey now lives in Chevy Chase, Md., with husband Alan and daughter Molly. Eighty-five percent of the AXA '85s are either single or married with two kids. Does this mean anything? And now a closing limerick: There once was a boy from Philly Whose writing was often quite silly His classmates were heard to cheer His column is only thrice a year Thank goodness next column it's Shilley (well, really, Shelley, but...)
