We secretaries always assume that our columns are read by our entire captive audience of classmates. It comes as a pleas ant little surprise when we discover occasionally that someone else, who didn't have to, has read our immortal words. You may recall that last November I mentioned a letter from Ed Weinstein, enthusing about our female track team, particularly mentioning Kristin Manwaring 96, who, in the Heptagonal meet, ran second in the 3,000 meter and, a half hour later won the mile. Says Ed, "That's running!" Shortly after this appeared Ed received a nice letter from Kristin, thanking him for his comments. Ed says she's back in Hanover to train for the 2000 Olympics.
In December I mentioned our brief obituary on Hertn Sander and offered to fill any requests for copies of a longer, more complete obit that appeared in Dartmouth Medicine. The only request came from Bob Baumrucker '31, who, as a fellow skier, had been a close friend of Herm's.
I too read other Class Notes and, with thanks, snitch all the following from Bob Fairchild '29, secretary of DMS '31:
Hub Christman, who has lived in Sun City, Ariz., since his retirement, is about to move to the adjoining retirement community of Youngtown, where more services are available. Hub: please send me your new address and phone number when you have time. My best to Margaret.
Bob Rix ( quote) "is not too bad and sounded great...he still has some symptoms of the anterior cerebral bleeding he reported a year ago, and a CT scan showed a scar. He has been told a full recovery will take another year." Bob retired from orthopedic surgery about 20 years ago.
Alan Leslie admits he's getting older but makes the best of it. He has previously had a coronary bypass. He and Fannie are very involved in art, as is quite apparent. They are active in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Houston (Tex) Museum of Art. Alan maintains a relationship with the State Museum of Art at Raleigh, N.C., and is interested in our Hood Museum. He and Fannie recently attended the Cezanne exhibition in Philadelphia.
