Halloween at Dartmouth. That's right. Dartmouth Night this year is on Halloween, when 1961 will celebrate our fall mini-reunion. This one could be spectacular. A bonfire. A fall night. Knowing the Dartmouth student, I would be astonished if some are not in costume for the Dartmouth Night parade. In fact, I suspect that some 1961s may be in costume as well. The parade begins at 7:30, followed by the pep rally and bonfire.

Mini-reunion chair Art Johnson has cooked up some new wrinkles on a framework that is similar to past mini-reunions. He's found a wonderful bed-and-breakfast in Hartland, the Sumner Mansion, "a beautiful brick Georgian estate with carriage house, circular drive, and five bedrooms that look like they were decorated by Martha Stewart." He's arranged for the Mansion to be our weekend headquarters. ITASCA, the restaurant in White River Junction that served last year's dinner, will cater our Saturday evening class dinner in the privacy of the Mansion library, and we'll also have a farewell brunch there on Sunday morning. The bed-and-breakfast is one 1-91 exit south of White River, in the center of Hartland.

We'll be renting the whole place for the weekend, and Art says five lucky couples will get to stay there—first come, first served—at the same price as our standard Airport Economy Inn site. The Airport Inn remains the primary hotel for the rest of us; the reservations deadline is October 1. From there, the Sumner Mansion is just one 1-89 interchange exit west and then one interchange exit south on 91. Call Art for the bed-and-breakfast rooms.

Because the Harvard-Dartmouth game is at noon on Saturday, November 1, our morning activities will be earlier than usual: class meeting at 8:30 a.m. and picnic lunch at the Fayerweathers beginning at 10:30 a.m. At a meeting at Class Officers Weekend, your class officers decided to make an extra effort to publicize the picnic among the students who live in the Fayerweathers, giving us greater opportunity to interact with them.

Another weekend addition: a keg party at the site of the Frost statue after the game.

By the way, the students are starting to make use of the Frost statue site. Al Rozycki told class president Oscar Arslanian that he was quite moved when he came upon several groups of students with books open studying near Frost, as Frost appeared to be writing away.

Oscar is turning his attention to the next class project. Several possibilities already proposed are restarting the class of 1961 Fellows Program—which has been greeted enthusiastically by a number of classmates—and establishing a performing arts endowment. Oscar is open to other ideas as well. Please call him. Or plan to discuss at the class meeting. As usual, these meetings are open to all classmates.

The dates of our Chicago reunion are June 4-7, 1998. The Fairmont Hotel will be our headquarters. Thursday night would be talk, Chicago-style pizza, generally low key. Other events might include tours of outdoor sculpture, for which Chicago is famous. Other Chicago specials on Friday and Saturday nights.
