John and Judith Anderson had a fascinating cruise this summer. They flew to Barcelona, then visited Cannes, Rome, Sicily, Athens, and several Greek islands, and then flew back from Istanbul in time to see the Cleveland Indians win the American League pennant (and almost the World Series). They left in November to enjoy warmer weather in their Houston condo for six months.
Stan and Marge Smoyer regretted missing our mini-reunion because of their trip to Italy, but if the Dartmouth-Princeton game determines the Ivy League tide, they might come to Hanover for the game. Not very likely, but in the Ivies, as they say, any team can beat any other team on any given day, if they have the incentive.
John Randall made his first trip to Hanover from Milwaukee in five years and caught the autumn colors at their peak. He visited his grandson-in-law's pilot refinery in Glens Falls, making fancy chemicals out of city garbage. Granddaugher and grandson are both Dartrmouth/Thayer. John is still working, a director of five companies, and a trustee of a large mutual fund family. JohnRoberts writes to correct the newsletter of October 15, in which mention was made of the six '34s who came to Dartmouth from Central High in Manchester, N.H. John also spent two years there, but then transferred to St. Paul's before entering Dartmouth.
Lois Frankel expected to move to Hanover by November, but in late October she suffered a heart attack and received a pacemaker. At present she is in a recovery home in Madison, Conn., and doesn't know when they will "spring her loose." We wish you a speedy recovery, Lois! Her new address in Hanover will be "The Greens," 53 1/2 Lyme Road, Hanover, NH 03755.
Bob and Mary Engelman had dinner with Tom Hicks recently, about to have an operation for glaucoma. Bob wants to tell Ted Germann that he and Mary have five children, four boys and a girl, just the reverse of Ted and they have 18 grandchildren, plus 2 2/3 great-grandchildren. Can anyone beat that '34 record?
Our sincerest sympathies to the families of Bill Emerson, Dick Campen, Bud Hart, and Mary Emerson (widow of Dick), whose deaths were reported in September and October.
